Another Grading in the bag!
A long, hot Sunday for 8 students on Sunday which began with a very early 5am morning start in Galway, with 2hr squad session followed by their Grading at 2pm.
A congratulations to all who graded today. Fantastic effort overall, especially those who completed squads in the morning.

DLTKDS Awards Dinner 25-26. What a busy and fantastic academic year. On May 1st, DLTKDS gathered together for our annual Dinner & Awards. What a spectacular year we've had for 2024 - 26. A brilliant new intake, Spectacular results at Worlds 2026 & so much more.
Sadly quite a few couldn't make it. These awards are to celebrate our students for the hard work they've continued to put in.

It was a very hard year this year to choose the awards. As an instructor, I can't help but thank my stars on how
lucky I am to have a group this fantastic, hard working. Without them, I would just be muttering to myself in a room. They make Dún Laoghaire Taekwon-do Schools what it is.
But also we want to thank everyone who continues to support us year after year:

& of course the family & friends of all our students. Without them, their work would be more difficult. The long hours they put in are thanks to you.

The year is not over however, with a few comps left, another colour belt grading and spain still on the docket.

On Sunday April 27th Mr Li along with 2 students were down in Galway at for the ITF HQ Korea National Umpire Course led by Sahyun Fitzgibbon. Mr Li went for his annual recertification whilst Ilana Galli Bailauova and Stephen Dichoso got certified as D-Class Umpires.

Easter break is quiet but we had 2 special guests and long time friends of the school, Sabum R. Sharman(V - ITF) and Master D. Hubery (IV - WT) take a class for two hours which the students thoroughly enjoyed.

Chang Ung (PHD) passed away March 29th 2026.

Professor Chang Ung served as a North Korean member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and later as an honorary member. He was awarded the Olympic Order for his contributions to the Olympic movement.

He was the honorary life president of the International Taekwon-Do Federation, having previously served as its President from 2002 to 2015 following the death of General Choi Hong Hi from stomach cancer on 15 June 2002.

On 22 September 2002 before the General's passing, 70 representatives from 46 countries attended a memorial service for General Choi Hong Hi. The solemn and memorable service was held in Pyongyang, North Korea. Choi Hong Hi spoke to a select group of ITF officials and high-level instructors on his deathbed at Pyongyang Hospital. It was recorded that there might be no misinterpretation of his intentions regarding the future of the ITF. The following is from the General's last words witnessed by FGMR Rhee Ki Ha, GM Tom MacCallum, Master Leong Wei Meng, Master Mr. Kwang Sung Hwang, Grand Master Park Jong Soo, Grand Master Hwang Jin, Master Hwang B**g Yong, Mr Jong Jae Hun, & Mr. Rang B**g Man;

You probably might know Mr. Chang Ung well. It is time to introduce Mr. Chang Ung proudly in public. Please carry on propaganda that Mr. Chang Ung is the tallest and in the highest position in the ITF. If only I had been as tall as Mr. Chang Ung, I could have had less opponents, however, as my body was so tiny that there were many opponents. Thus, all alone, I could not but fight against them for so long. But I have never been worn out for the justice was on my side. I have always worried about a successor to the President, however, my mind is set at ease for there is Mr. Chang Ung.

Chang Ung's appointment and the legitimacy of the ITF he was left with was deeply controversial and still so to this day (primarily disputes over his leadership of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) after General Choi's death, allegations of financial corruption in 2004, and accusations of acting as a political tool for North Korean propaganda in joint Olympic marches)
but he played a key role

On Sunday March 22nd, 12 students from DLTKDS
(11 IMTKD & 1 29FTKD) made their way down to for their grading alongside students of CTKDS.

This marked an important step in 7 students journey as 7 of them were White Belts (10th Kup) grading for the first time.
This was also an important day as it also marked the 60th anniversary of the founding of the International Taekwon-do Federation.
