Today marks the first day of a whole week dedicated to the Irish language, culture, songs, and stories.

Seachtain na Gaeilge began in 1902, founded by Conradh na Gaeilge.

At the time, Ireland was experiencing the Irish Cultural Revival, a movement to revive Irish language, literature, music, and national identity.

The purpose was:
• To encourage people to speak Irish in everyday life
• To promote Irish culture and heritage
• To create pride in the national language at a time when English dominated public life

I want to encourage you all to do your best this week to speak a little more .

Instead of Hello - Dia Duit 👋
Instead of Goodbye - Slán ✌️
Instead of How are you - Conas atá tú❓

I was honoured to win Reena O’Brien’s Lady Captain’s Competition at Thurles Golf Club yesterday. Not only is Reena a great captain but is also a huge advocate of Gaeilge le Grá. Reena along with my daughter and greatest supporter, Aoibhínn, very successfully pitched (excuse the pun) the initiative to Cynthia Ní Mhúrchú at Thurles GC to help promote an Irish Language Revival . Maith sibh go léir 🙌
