Leaving Cert French- 1/7/2019-5/7/2019
COURSE DESCRIPTION: A week long preparation course for the Leaving Certificate French Examination.
PREREQUISITES: Student should be motivated Higher Level students in 5thyear going into 6thyear.
OBJECTIVES:As a result of this course, you will be able to:
Review key high frequency verbs in common tenses which are key to all formats of the examination, oral aural, reading and written production.
Having & being:- Avoir être.
Wishing, wanting, having knowing:- Pouvoir, vouloir, devoir savoir
Verbs of movement:- Aller, venir, rester, sortir, entrer etc
Everday verbs:- Faire, dire, mettre, aimer, donner, etc.
Opinion piece writing- Strategies to make a little go a long way
Diary entry writing:- Relationships, romance, & friendship.
Things to impress the examiner:- Subjunctive tense, Si clauses, idiomatic French phrases & vocabulary.
Key Leaving Cert themes:- Injustice/inequality and technology.
Reading strategies:- The ‘neglected area’ of the exam for most.
Tip, and hits for the year ahead. Included strategies for vocab learning, oral preparation etc.
REQUIRED TEXTS AND RESOURCES:
Please bring writing materials & a French dictionary.
Detailed handouts will be given to all participants.
METHODOLOGIES
Students will cover the material above through teacher to student interaction in the target language. We will also listen to music, do story reading & short film clip viewing all relevant to the topics listed above. There will be time given to ensure students have time to demonstrate the objectives in spoken and written French.
We will also do an in-depth analysis of the 2019 French Leaving Cert paper.
