LEAF Ireland has been invited to speak at the Education Buildings Ireland Conference & Exhibition taking place at the RDS, Dublin on 11 and 12 November.

LEAF will be joining education professionals, Government representatives and built environment specialists for two days of discussion, learning and networking focused on creating high quality learning environments for all students and learners.

Our panel discussion will explore how sustainable school grounds can help students and nature thrive. As spaces experienced daily by almost every child, school grounds offer a practical, low-cost and scalable opportunity to support biodiversity, wellbeing and inclusion.

Join us on the 11th for an interactive discussion on the future of outdoor school spaces and their potential to create lasting benefits for children, nature and our shared future.

LEAF Ireland is delighted to be collaborating with Clare County Council on this project in Tim Smythe Park, connecting students with nature, through hands-on learning.

This week, students learned about the importance of healthy soils, native species, and how to map and understand their local environment.

A fantastic day of learning, restoration and getting hands-on with nature! 💚

🌳🎋🌍 Fourth class pupils from CBS Ennis had their first taste of the Choill Bheag Programme at Tim Smythe Park in Ennis today.

Organised by LEAF Ireland, in conjunction with Clare County Council, Choill Bheag is a long-term educational restoration programme. It is based around practical sustainable tree planting and long-term woodland and eco-system education, management and practical skills.

It has a strong emphasis on creating the woodland and hedgerow habitat that are then studied and managed as part of a longer-term educational initiative.

A huge thank you to the Farming for Nature Conference for such a fantastic event. It was inspiring to hear from so many knowledgeable and passionate speakers, with some truly valuable insights shared throughout the two days.

The sessions on soil health were a particular highlight, an area that is so fundamental to biodiversity and ecosystem health. Plenty of ideas and inspiration to take away.

We’re thrilled to know that one of our little oaks has found such a fitting home after being presented to Darina Allen, a proud member of An Taisce The National Trust for Ireland.

Well done to everyone involved in organising such a great gathering, and thanks to all who shared their experiences and expertise 🌱👏

Building on the success of our previous Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine funded project, we were delighted to return to DCU and deliver a series of LEAF workshops throughout February and March for student teachers🌳

The workshops explored Trees, Forests & Outdoor Education through a mix of interactive indoor discussions and hands-on outdoor learning activities. Participants explored the importance of trees and hedgerows, while deepening their understanding of the life cycle of wood products, resource efficiency, and sustainability🍃

We also discussed common barriers to forest education and practical ways to overcome them, alongside exploring the new curriculum’s growing emphasis on outdoor education and how trees and hedgerows can provide an engaging focal point for learning.

A huge thank you to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine for funding this project and Biodiversity Partners for supporting the delivery of the workshops in DCU 🌱
