What does journalling actually do to your brain? 🧠✍️
Sometimes we think of journalling as simply “writing things down”. But it can be much more than that.
One reason writing can feel regulating is something called affect labelling — putting feelings into words. Research into affect labelling suggests that naming emotional experiences can engage areas of the prefrontal cortex involved in regulation and is associated with reduced amygdala responses to emotional stimuli.
In simpler words: when we name what we feel, we give the brain something to work with.
And this is why reflective journalling can be so valuable for SNAs.
Our days can hold a lot — supporting children, managing difficult moments, noticing tiny successes, adapting constantly, working alongside others and sometimes carrying emotions home with us.
A journal creates a small space between what happened and what we carry forward.
You don’t have to write pages. The Bee Ready Journal was created with that idea in mind — not to give you another task at the end of a busy day, but to offer you a place to reflect, reset and grow.
Because looking after yourself is part of being able to keep showing up for others. đź’›
You don’t have to write everything. Sometimes you just need to name it.
