29 серпня — День пам'яті захисників України, які зaгинyли в бopoтьбі за Незалежність.

Це не просто дата в хронології нашої бopoтьби. Це бiль, який став частиною кожного українського ранку, і сила, яка тримає нас у найтемніші ночі.
За цими суворими офіційними словами «незалежність, суверенітет, територіальна цілісність» ховаються конкретні очі, усмішки, голоси, дитячі малюнки в кишенях пікселя і недописані плани на майбутнє.

Ми схиляємо голови не тому, що маємо, а тому, що кожен наш подих сьогодні купувався ними — найдорожчою ціною. Вони стали нашим щитом, нашою історією і нашою незламною опорою.
Нехай бiль пам'яті переплавляється в дію, а імена героїв закарбуються в серцях не лише у cкopботні хвилини, а в кожному нашому мирному дні, який вони нам подарували.

Вічна пам'ять і слава кожному та кожній, хто не повернувся з бою. Світло вашого подвигу ніколи не згасне. 🕯️🇺🇦

August 29 — Memorial Day for the Defenders of Ukraine who died fighting for our Independence.
This is not just a date in the timeline of our struggle. It is pain that has become part of every Ukrainian morning, and strength that carries us through the darkest nights. Behind the solemn official words "independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity" are real eyes, smiles, voices, children's drawings tucked into pixel-pattern pockets, and unfinished plans for the future.

We bow our heads not because we must, but because every breath we take today was paid for by them — at the highest price.
They became our shield, our history, and our unbreakable foundation.
May the pain of memory be transformed into action, and may the names of our heroes live on in our hearts — not only in moments of mourning, but in every peaceful day they gave us.
Eternal memory and glory to every one of you who did not return from battle.
The light of your courage will never go out. 🕯️🇺🇦

Ireland🎤 TODAY — ENGLISH SPEAKING CLUB WITH LUCY SHAMROCK!

Our Speaking Club is a part of the Small Talk Integration Course for Thriving Life in Ireland 🇮🇪

And today, I’m sharing with you not only my knowledge of English, but also my real-life experience.

I’m a professional public speaking teacher, translator and English educator, and I’ve been living in Ireland for almost three years, communicating predominantly in English every day.

I know what it feels like to build your life in a new country, adapt to a different culture and learn how to communicate naturally — not just correctly.

And I know what works.

On the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence, buildings and monuments around the world were lit up in the colours of the Ukrainian flag 💙💛

The Empire State Building, the Eiffel Tower, the Colosseum, Christ the Redeemer, the Brandenburg Gate, the London Eye — the world came together in blue and yellow to show its support for Ukraine.

These past days, Ukrainians across Ireland marked State Flag Day and the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence. Ukrainian communities gathered alongside Irish friends in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Kilkee, Ballina, Westport, Mountrath, Killarney, Tralee, Di**le, Longford, Roscommon, Ardee, Clogherhead, Dundalk and many other towns — concerts, festivals, Ukrainian food and culture, charity initiatives.
But what mattered most was simply being together, feeling the strength of the community, and keeping Ukraine and our fight for freedom in people's minds.
We also honoured the memory of the defenders who gave their lives for Ukraine's independence. It meant so much to have our Irish friends standing alongside Ukrainians — those who support Ukraine and stay with us through the hardest times. 🇺🇦🇮🇪

Heartfelt thanks to every Ukrainian organisation, community and volunteer across Ireland who took part in marking Flag Day and Independence Day.
Thank you for helping keep Ukraine alive — far from home, but close to the heart.

У день 35-ї річниці Незалежності України кольорами українського прапора підсвітили будівлі та монументи в різних країнах світу 💙💛 Empire State Building, Ейфелева вежа,
Колізей, статуя Христа-Спасителя, Бранденбурзькі ворота, London Eye — світ об'єднався у синьо-жовтих барвах на знак підтримки України.
Цими днями українці по всій Ірландії
відзначали День Державного Прапора та
35-ту річницю Незалежності України.

Українські громади разом з ірландськими друзями збиралися у Дубліні, Корку, Лімеріку, Голвеї, Кілкі, Балліні, Вестпорті, Моунтраті, Кілларні, Тралі, Дінглі, Лонгфорді, Роскоммоні, Арді, Клохергеді, Дандолку та багатьох інших містах — концерти, фестивалі, українська кухня та культура, благодійні ініціативи.
Та найважливішим було інше — бути разом, відчувати силу спільноти й нагадувати про Україну і нашу боротьбу за свободу.

Ми вшановували пам'ять захисників і захисниць, які віддали життя за незалежність України.
Особливо цінно, що поруч з українцями були наші ірландські друзі — ті, хто підтримує Україну і залишається з нами у найскладніші часи. 🇺🇦🇮🇪

Дякуємо всім українським організаціям, громадам і волонтерам по всій Ірландії. Дякуємо, що разом зберігаємо Україну живою — далеко від дому, але близько до серця.

"I was ashamed to sit at home…"
His call sign was "Tykhon." Borys Melnyk, from the Ternopil region. A man who, at an age when most people are dreaming of quiet and rest, went to war instead.
This isn't some pretty legend from social media.
Borys Melnyk went to the front after the Maidan.
His two sons, Ustym and Danylo, had already
gone to fight back in 2014.
His sons tried to talk him out of it, but he couldn't just sit and watch television while Ukraine was fighting for its life.
"Tykhon" first reached the front line in Pisky just before Epiphany in 2015 — at first, essentially without official permission from command. He stayed on, and later served officially in the 1st Assault Company of the "Right Sector" volunteer corps.
His path took him through Pisky, the Donetsk
airport area, Starohnativka, and Avdiivka.

At first, as he told it himself, people laughed —
an "old man" showing up to fight.
But at the front, it quickly became clear that age wasn't the point.
In 2018, Borys Melnyk was entered into the
Book of Records of Ukraine as the country's
oldest volunteer soldier. He was 76 at the time.

He was also a kobzar.
At the front, he played the bandura for his brothers-in-arms. And that says a lot about him too: a man who could have stayed home instead picked up a weapon — and, between battles, picked up his bandura.
One thing he said has stayed with me:
"I was ashamed to stay home while Ukraine was in danger."
That's it. No grand speeches, no pathos.
Just a man who, in his later years, decided his place was wherever Ukraine was being defended.
"Tykhon" showed something very simple: courage has no age. Sometimes the best way to say "I love my country" is simply to stand up and go defend it.

🙏 Respect to Borys Melnyk and to all Ukrainian volunteers who never looked for reasons to stay on the sidelines.

«Мені було соромно сидіти вдома…»
У нього був позивний «Тихон».
Борис Мельник із Тернопільщини.
Чоловік, який у віці, коли багато хто вже мріє про тишу й спокій, поїхав на вiйнy.
І це не красива легенда з соцмереж.

Борис Мельник прийшов на фpoнт після Майдану. Його два сини — Устим і Данило — пішли вoювaти ще у 2014 році.
Сини намагалися відмовити батька, але він не зміг просто дивитися телевізор і спостерігати, як Україна вoює.
Уперше на передову «Тихон» потрапив у Піски перед Водохрещем 2015 року.
Причому спочатку — фактично без дозволу командування. Там залишився, а згодом уже офіційно служив у 1-й штурмовій роті ДУК «Правий сектор».

За його плечима — Піски, район Донецького аеропорту, Старогнатівка, Авдіївка.
Спочатку з нього, як він сам розповідав, підсміювалися: мовляв, прийшов «дідуган». Але на передовій швидко стало зрозуміло, що вік — далеко не головне.

У 2018 році Бориса Мельника внесли до Книги рекордів України як найстаршого українського добровольця. На той час йому було 76 років.

А ще він — кобзар.
На фронті грав для побратимів на бандурі. І це теж дуже промовисто: людина, яка могла залишатися вдома, брала до рук зброю, а між боями — бандуру.
Особливо запам'яталася його фраза:
«Мені соромно було залишатися вдома в той час, коли Україна в небезпеці».

Ось і все. Без пафосу. Без довгих промов.
Просто чоловік, який у зрілому віці вирішив, що його місце — там, де захищають Україну.
«Тихон» показав дуже просту річ: мужність не має віку. Іноді найкращий спосіб сказати «я люблю свою країну» — просто встати й піти її захищати.
🇺🇦 Повага Борису Мельнику та всім українським добровольцям, які не шукали причин залишитися осторонь.
