As mentioned in a previous post, I am raising awareness about Imposter Phenomenon. With the University of College Cork's support, I will be doing research on this and will be sending out a survey in the next week. Until then, I thought I would remind everyone about what Imposter Phenomenon is.
1. It is also known as Imposter Syndrome. As this isn't a diagnosable 'disorder', because it is based on one's own thoughts and feelings, it is considered a 'phenomenon'.
2. It happens because we don't feel, or think, that we are good enough. We believe we are an imposter to our organisation/university/sports teams etc. This is despite the fact that there is objective evidence that indicates that one is fully capable of fulfilling these types of roles.
3. It is an under-researched area. Because of this, I will be exploring the association of internal and external resources, in organisations, and Imposter Phenomenon....all will become clear when you complete the survey.
I hope that by sharing/re-sharing this type of information, you will be willing to take part in the study. All participation is governed by the University of College Cork and is protected by the Data Protection Officer at the university.
Thank you to my wonderful supporters who are willing to participate.

I hope that this quote resonates with you as it is in line with our theme for September - the 'upside' of our 'dark side'. We are often told to be something that we are not. We are put into situations that limit us because we can't be genuine. These situations are in the professional, social and personal environment. I had a recent personal interaction with someone where I learned the lesson that if you are expected to change for someone who isn't willing to change themselves, then it's time to move on. Fairness. The rules of engagement apply to both. Along with anything quoted by Victor Hugo / Viktor Frankl (weird that my favourite quotes come from people with a similar name), this has to be the quote that truly resonated with me and changed my view on many things. You be you! That is good enough. Well, not good...better than good.

Anger, guilt, regret, and anxiety have no place in a happy life, right? Wrong. The Upside of Your Dark Side illuminates the essential role played by negative emotions. And then goes further, revealing the benefits of personality traits we tend to downgrade such as grandiosity and selfishness. Essential reading for anyone who wants to understand the hidden elements of a happy, fulfilling, engaged life.

Focusing on the research of positive psychology, we should sometimes be mindless, not mindful - The absolute opposite of what we are taught to believe. Why it is okay to be 'you' - warts and all.
Be your Best Self by being You - Welcome Me to Me
Fact 1: We overestimate how happy we will be if things go βour wayβ. Fact 2: We underestimate how difficult new experiences can be. Fact 3: Yearning for a missed opportunity is good for us. Fact 4: There are 3 dysfunctional beliefs that we have: βI must do well and get approval from others.β...

When we are at our highest, and our lowest, our ego is the most precarious.

The ego has deliberate and malicious intent - it prefers power and punishment. And to those egos who keep playing this game, well, how the 'mighty' will fall. Use this 'fun fact' to remind yourself that an egoless person does the right thing for the greater good.

Ego-driven behaviours are the number 1 source of drama in workplaces today. It is high time for a modern leadership philosophy that provides simple tools and techniques to eliminate drama from our organisations, deliver up employees who say yes to whatβs next, and cultivate accountability, not engagement, to drive big business results.
