Food and Mood - Online Course 14/05/2020

Daily TY Suggestion:

It comes again from the DCU Future Learn programme but I think this one is a good one, it centres around how food, nutrition, mental and brain health, why diet matters are all related and how to make optimal dietary changes.

The course will provide research evidence, practical examples, skills development, and collaboration on dietary intake assessment, strategies and resource sharing for dietary change.

High school activities | Growth mindset | Partner content | Khan Academy 13/05/2020

Daily TY Suggestion:

TY students would have learned this from Blackbox Thinking within the classroom environment but I feel it is important that you continue the process especially coming into Senior Cycle.

Students can also have what is referred to as a growth mindset, which states that the brain is capable of overcoming the challenges it faces in new areas of learning. It is possible to develop a growth mindset, and doing so can help a student overcome the hurdles they face in learning and develop the necessary skills to persist.

The link below will bring you to a free course from the Khan Academy which will give you the skills to embed Growth Mindset and hopefully take this extremely worthwhile skill forward in life. Feel free to share this with anyone else who you think may benefit from it at home.

Daily TY Suggestion:

My suggestion for this morning comes from Lámh, which is an organisation that helps children and adults with intellectual disability communicate through a manual sign system.

Lámh is offering free and open access to Lámh Signs Online until May 31st 2020.

This could be a handy skill to have for the future or it may be quite important to have it now if you have family members who struggle to communicate.

Darkness Into Light : Page not found 08/05/2020

Daily TY Suggestion:

My daily suggestion today is taken from Ms Byrne and is a very important one. Today would have been the day for Darkness Into Light but for obvious reasons it can't take place.

Pieta House are asking people to get up at 5.30am to watch the sun rise and take photos. It would be great if as many CUS students as possible could support Pieta House in creating a world where su***de, self-harm and stigma have been replaced by hope, self-care and acceptance.

Take a photo of your family and send it to Ms Byrne and she will create a collage of images.

For anyone who is not sure, a TED Talk is a short, powerful talk covering many different topics from Health to Education to Sport. My suggestion today is two-fold. If you have never heard of TED Talks then go to the website below and just browse and select one that you think might be of interest to you. And if you think it is very good then share it with someone who you think will also get the benefit of the talk.
