Our very own Professor Niamh Moore-Cherry and Dr Dean Phelan will be featured in episode one of the brand-new season of RTÉ One’s award-winning science series “10 Things to Know About…” 🎬
This episode dives into how communities and researchers across Ireland are driving real, place-based change, and we’re proud that our school continue to be part of that national story.

📺 Episode 1: “Change”

🗓 Monday, 10 November

⏰ 8:30pm on RTÉ One & RTÉ Player

Professor Moore-Cherry and Dr Phelan will speak about the work of the CONUNDRUM research team in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, and how they have worked with communities and local actors to reimagine transport and mobility planning in small and medium Irish towns.
CONUNDRUM is a collaborative action research project led by UCD’s School of Geography in collaboration with Trinity College Dublin’s Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering. The project is funded by the Research Ireland National Challenge Sustainable Communities Scheme, with the Think tank for Action on Social Change (TASC) as Societal Impact Champion.
In November 2024, the team launched a Community-led Mobility Strategy for Enniscorthy that outlined 9 key actions for achieving more sustainable and inclusive mobility futures for the town, with most of these actions already being taken up by local actors, demonstrating the impact of our school’s community-engaged research. The team have since replicated the process in Youghal, County Cork, and Tramore, County Waterford, with a Community-led Mobility Strategy for Youghal launched last week and the launch of the Tramore strategy planned for January 21st, 2026.
