As we look forward to summer and all the wonderful musicians visiting our shores, have a listen to this throw back from 2023. Lucia is from Argentina and was visiting for some Sean Nos singing lessons. She blew us away with this version of Johnny is the fairest one. . Beautiful passionate singing

To round off the busy month of May, we had Miguel from Spain and Noriko from Japan visit for tin whistle lessons. Miguel had fallen in love with the whistle after hearing it at the wonderful Celtic music festival in Ortigueira, in Gallicia and after some time developing the basic skills from Youtube, he decided to hone his skills with some one to one lessons here in Leitrim.
Noriko, was a complete beginner with the whistle but made huge progress picking up a couple of tunes during the week to take home and practice ready for her next visit! She also took in some traditional Irish dance lessons and had a super week.
Both really enjoyed the very hospitable Thursday evening session in Frank Davitts in Drumkeeran with so many friendly faces giving them such a warm welcome. Hup!

We had the wonderful Emika join us for a week of lessons recently. Over from the North of Japan with her friend Shiori, she hopes to one day get an Irish Trad Session going in her home town. No doubt it will be a cracking session as she has such a colourful character as befits her day job as a radio DJ.
Fiddle lessons by the shores of Lough Allen with John from Glenfarne helped send her on her way bursting with memories of Leitrim's wonderful hospitality.
Thanks for coming Emika, it was a pleasure to host you!

It was such a pleasure to host Kevin from Detroit when he visited a couple of weeks ago and availed of some excellent button accordion lessons with Brian Mostyn.
Kevin first took up the accordion when he spent a year in Ireland as a guest professor at University College Cork many moons ago. Back then, he had the good fortune to take lessons from the legendary Bobby Gardiner. Since retiring he has rekindled that passion and no better man to bring it another step along the road than our own Brian Mostyn. He really enjoyed the lessons and the Thursday evening session in Davitts to wrap up his stay was the icing on the cake!
Also joining us that week was the lovely Isuzu, visiting from Nigata in Japan who took in whistle lessons along with her adorable 4 year old son Gaku who made himself busy recording the session 😍

The lovely Shiori is heading back to Japan with a lot more tunes than when she arrived thanks to some wonderful flute lessons with Fiachra. Already very experienced with Classical Flute, she took to the Irish Flute like a duck to water...!

Emika and Shiori popped over from Japan for a few Flute and Fiddle lessons last month. They were delighted when the session musicians in Hargadon Bros asked them to play a few tunes which they duly obliged. The 5pm session on a Friday is really lovely and with Hargadons being one of Sligo's nicest pub restaurants, if you find yourself in that neck of the woods, we really recommend it. Hup..

Hup! It’s that time of year again 🎶

We’re delighted to welcome back the John McKenna Traditional Irish Music Society Festival to our local village of Drumkeeran.

Held in honour of one of Irish traditional music’s earliest recorded maestros, John McKenna, who was born here in the parish, the festival celebrates his incredible legacy of tunes recorded in New York in the 20's and 30's and cherished by generations of musicians. His legacy lives on and we are proud to celebrate it.

It’s always a fantastic weekend of performances, recitals, sessions, music, stories and plenty of craic. ☘️🎵

We had the lovely Shia from Korea and Shiori from Japan join us in Leitrim for some traditional Irish Flute lessons last month.
It was our good fortune they were visiting at the same time as with both of them being super experienced classical flutists, they treated us to some amazing virtuoso performances. So beautiful to listen to!
