I've made a New Year's resolution to take more time out and form a habit of mindfulness and meditation rather than just randomly squeezing it in when I remember, or as an emergency response to stressful times.
I'm trying out the free 10-day programme on Headspace. I've heard really good things about the content from friends. And I'm interested to know whether using an app is really going to help me form a long-lasting habit. Updates to follow...

Some excellent advice from Goldman Sachs's Edith Cooper
'Success is personal... it’s not about how I made it to “the top” - it’s about what you will do when you get there.'

Sometimes the simplest advice is the best.
I try to remind myself every day not to keep putting my goals out of reach by saying there is something I need that I haven't got. To think about what and who I already know, and to have faith that the rest will happen if and when I need it.
But sometimes it's easier to think "I just need to go to one more networking event" or "I need to do another course" or "I need to finish updating my CV" and make that the goal, rather than facing the thing that's more scary - the big goal, the big dream. In hindsight I can see that all I've been doing is allowing my fears to stop me achieving my aims.
Don't allow distractions to get in the way. Do a health check today - that thing you've said you need to do... is it just procrastinating? can you do without it?

This great post from a world record holder made me smile with recognition. Not that I've broken any world records, but I have done things that got the response "You're going to do what?"
And I've been thinking a lot about how the fear of that reaction holds us back. Whether it's an adventure you want to go on, a job change, a career break, a break up - worry about what others are going to think and say takes up so much of our brain space and stops us doing the thing that we know is right. But if we can just get the courage to do it anyway, great things can happen. Here's some inspiration.
What I learned when I challenged a world record.
