Yesterday I spent a lovely afternoon in a coffeeshop with a book. The book was a backup, as I was feeling a little introverted and a little tired. A perfect plan for my “in between state” of wanting to be alone but also to be among people. A space to enjoy short sweet moments of interaction with the staff and curious glances as newcomers arrive. As luck would have it my favourite corner was free, a seat with the perfect vantage point, and the right amount of cosiness.

Workshop / Practical Powerful Presence aka Your Power armchair.
Imagine arriving on an island in paradise, filled with lush green vegetation and beautiful sandy beaches that seem to go on forever. Freedom, peace and joy are everywhere and you spend time enjoying all that the island has to offer.
Gradually people arrive and decide to put all sorts of things along the beachfront, to protect against storms and intruders. They erect barriers to stop the waves from crashing too near the shore, they make shelters against the rain, huts to store things, and little by little the beach fills up until there are only narrow pathways to walk to the sea itself. It is safe from storms and intruders but it no longer feels free.
This is how we all started out, and how our island was gradually filled with the ideas, opinions, fears, worries, dislikes and dramas of our: families, community, schooling system, society, culture and so on. All of this leaves us with very little room to feel at peace, to feel free and feel fully alive.
Much of our journey at this time is to be aware of and release ourselves from this conditioning, so that we can see and feel the beauty and freedom again, and run in golden sands as far as the eye can see.
There is one very simple process that helps gradually and easily dissolve this conditioning, so we can be free from our inheritance and baggage.
This is the subject of my free workshop this Wednesday

What if you could choose how to feel right now?
When you go to a coffee shop, you choose the coffee shop and you choose from the menu. What if in the same way you can look at the “menu of feelings” and choose which you would like to feel right now? On the menu are things like: Lighthearted, upbeat, joyful, inspired, warm and loving, adventurous, sparkly, excited……
Question: That sounds lovely but if feels a little like pretending, is it faking it? Answer: Imagine a feeling that you don’t want to have, say irritation, is it yours, who says you have to be irritated, who says how long or short you have to feel it. Who says that it is better and more real to feel irritation than change it to another feeling?
Question: But it’s hard to change what I feel? Answer: Is it? What about the times that someone rings you or you accidently meet someone and you are distracted and suddenly you don’t feel irritated any more. It is possible to change feelings in an instant depending on the distraction.

Question: It still feels a bit like cheating, don’t I have to sort out figure out why I am feeling that way and change things? Maybe I think I have something to learn or gain by it? Answer: That is our mind trying to figure it out and stay safe by doing what we always do. Feeing good is the most wonderful feeling in the world, wanting to feel more of it is the most natural thing in the world, why would we not?

Question: That’s it, I think I would feel bad if I was feeling so good Answer: Do you really believe that? Is it not just something that is a common idea in our culture that it is more noble to suffer than to be happy? Now I will ask you a question: Who benefits when you are happy?
Question: I am going to try it out, is there anything else I should know? Answer: Perhaps practice with smaller everyday things or go for gold by deciding at the start of your day how you would like to feel that day and see what happens. It is learning about the power we have to direct our own lives, to feel things that benefit us, to feel things that benefit us …and watch as all those around us benefit too. Happy experimenting

Inner adventures: getting to know your power

December drawing inwards- a time of inner adventure.
I am sitting at my kitchen table in my favourite chair, the chair closest to the range, feeling very snug and cosy. It’s raining and dark outside, it’s hard to believe that this time last year I was travelling and coming towards the end of my 10-week trip in France. I am not one bit jealous of myself as I sit here warm and cosy. But sitting here writing reminds me of the joy I had sitting down each evening to share the adventures of the day just gone by.
There is something beautiful about bringing someone on your adventure, the adventure fills out and I can feel you the reader there with me sharing my wonder, my delight, my curiosity and the dramas, doubts and dilemmas also.
I am drawn to share more adventures with you.
I get a notion, an inkling, a restlessness even, that there is more, more to be seen, felt, understood, experienced. The time is ripe for more. It’s not long before my antennas pick up something that excites me. Have you ever heard the phrase that a book finds its way to you? Or perhaps felt that some part of you intuitively steers you towards a person, a place, or a book, that holds some sort of fascination for you?
I have been having some fascinating inner adventures of late and perhaps you may be interested? We are all partaking in this great adventure of life, and as someone said to me today in passing, we know an awful lot but still we’re kinda stupid. So I will likely reveal some of my knowledge and stupidity as I share some of these adventures.
I am an interesting mix of a hypochondriac and a martyr. So I spend my time pushing through pain or making it bigger by spending time worrying about it. I came across a striking image of pain (stuck energy) being compared to sandcastles at the edge of the beach which the tide could not reach. It went on to say that the normal tide is like our normal breath, it only reaches so far and so cannot dissolve stuck energy ( sandcastles at the edge of the beach)
But when we learn how to breath differently, we can gently deepen our breath and just as a higher tide will dissolve the sandcastles at the edge of the beach, so too can the breath dissolve stuck energy deep within us. I think it refers to both physical and emotional pain. So striking was this image that it prompted me to experiment.
Normal breathing only goes so far in our bodies, When we slowly deepen our breath even by a little amount we reach deeper places within us and thus can like the tide soften this energy until it eventually is taken away by the tide.
I had a good pain to experiment with, a pulled muscle in my rib which started late one evening just before bed. Usually when this happens the pain can last up to 3 weeks on and off. After being annoyed for a few minutes about this future pain and what I had done to pull the muscle, I became aware of all that I was telling myself about my pain and how it was going to be going forward. I had totally forgotten what I had read about the breath being able to help. And I had forgot about something else that I had been reading on how we are the creators of our own lives, and our own experiences.
I tried to remember what I had read.
I remembered that the first thing was not to fall for what the mind says. Ie that it will last 3 weeks and it will be ongoing pain. The quantum question to ask yourself is- how do I want to feel right now? How do I want this situation to unfold?
I want to feel that it will get better fast, and that I wont have ongoing pain. discomfort and inconvenience.
So, I wondered what is actually possible right here right now.
I got into bed slowly as it was tender and lay there and thought of how breathing could be used to dissolve energy blockages, I slowed down my breathing but it still hurt to breath as this is one of the joys of rib pain. My first thought was that this is too painful so I should not breath any deeper. Then a second thought, what if that is just something that I have been telling myself. What if I can breathe a little deeper and what if I can gently move past the wall… normally I stop when I come right up against the wall/ the pain and am afraid to go any further because it might hurt more.
So l explored the idea that it may not actually be a solid wall, that the breath can slowly and gentle move in and behind the pain. I did this and I am still astounded that it was possible to go further, and that it was not painful, it was gentle, soft and respectful and a few minutes later I was fully breathing normally and there was no pain anywhere. I moved about to check if there was pain in a different position but there was none. And I was kind of amazed. This was a new experience for me and I woke up the following morning with no pain and feeling rather pleased with myself.
