We welcome the publication by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport of the Advisory Committee’s report on restitution and repatriation of cultural heritage, presented to Government by Minister Patrick O'Donovan.

Chaired by Rt. Hon. Sir Donnell Deeny, the report looks at how Ireland should deal with claims relating to culturally sensitive objects held in Irish collections.

It sets out proposals for a more transparent approach and recommends a national framework, guidelines and an expert panel for complex cases.

The Heritage Council is proud to have supported the work of the Advisory Committee, including the development of the accompanying Restitution and Repatriation: A Practical Guide for Claimants and Collecting Institutions in Ireland.
