These included:* Disarmament & Peacebuilding* The Environmental Impact of Nuclear Power* Global Trade* PMC’s and Mercenaries / Instability* Social Media and Fake News* The Use of AI* Genetic Engineering* and more Every delegation represented a different country, with our school taking the place of Kenya. The Cork Educate Together delegation wrote resolutions on topics such as the Question of Forced Displacement due to Climate Change and the Status of Climate Refugees. This resolution in the SOCHUM (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee) advanced to debate in the General Assembly on Monday where it was passionately discussed by proponents and opponents. On Monday, a resolution booklet containing all approved resolutions was published. SAIMUN is more than an ordinary conference. It is a unique opportunity for students to learn more about global politics, and the way organisations such as the UN operate. The students also develop skills like confidence, critical thinking & the ability to speak up, all of which will last far beyond the committee room. We are very proud of our delegates & their hard work!
