John Horton Conway: the world’s most charismatic mathematician | Siobhan Roberts 12/04/2020

"John Horton Conway passed away today on April 11, 2020, in Princeton New Jersey (USA). The few sources available at this time (the first news from a tweet from his friend Colm Mulcahy, later taken up by various sources, including his biographer Siobhan Roberts) attribute his disappearance to Covid-19. Born in Liverpool in 1937, he was a multifaceted mathematician, active mainly in finite group theory, in which he helped complete the classification in the 1980s, node theory, number theory and combinatorial game theory. The first part of his career took place at the University of Cambridge (UK), and the second part in the United States, at Princeton University, in recent years as John von Neumann Professor Emeritus."
