A Brief History
Scoil Aiséirí Chríost is situated on the North Side of Cork City in a place called Farranree. The name Farranree comes from the Irish words Fearran Rí, which mean the Land of the King. et. We are an all girls school with four hundred children attending the school, and a further sixty three year old boys and girls enrolled in the Early Start Preschool. Early Education
In 1996 Scoil Aiséirí Chríost was invited to partake in a pilot programme for early education. Thus began the Early Start programme, which is located in a prefab on the school grounds. and consists of two classrooms catering for sixty children (boys and girls aged three years). Two teachers and two childcare workers are employed in this unit. Here preschool boys and girls explore learning through the medium of play. Healthy Eating at Scoil Aiséirí Chríost
Scoil Aiséirí Chríost is proud to be recognised by the HSE as a health promoting school. We endeavour to promote healthy eating among our pupils through the implementation of our healthy lunch policy. Funding from the Department of Social and Family Affairs affords us the opportunity to offer the children a varied healthy lunch free of charge on a daily basis. Extra Curricular Activities
Scoil Aiséirí Chríost endeavours to provide an all round education for its pupils and following in the strong musical tradition of the Northside of Cork City singing is very much to the fore in the school. Sports also play a central role in the school's extra curricular activities, with camogie, basketball, volleyball, swimming and athletics proving very popular with our students. An after school HomeWork club gives children the opportunity to do homework in a structured environment conducive to learning. The School Choir regularly showcases its excellence by performing at Feis Maitiú, Cór Fhéile na Scól, UCC, Carol Services and other special occasions such as visits by dignitaries. Pupils from Rang III to Rang VI participate in the School Choir. They practice each week for an hour after school. The choir competed in Feis Maitiú Corcaigh and won First Place in both “The Sr. Benedicta Memorial Perpetual Cup” for Primary School Unison Choirs and “The Soroptimist International (Cork) Perpetual Trophy and Bursary” Unison or Part Choirs 13 Years and Under. The Choir also competed in Feis Ceoil Dublin and won First Place in Cór Bhunscoile, Dhá Phairt and Second Place in Primary School Choirs, Two Part.
