Suzuki Music in Cork is the page of Musicians in the Making, a voluntary group of parents who support Cork's Suzuki violin and cello teachers in organising events and promoting the Suzuki method of music education and learning Musicians In the Making Association
Musicians in the Making is a Cork-based non-profit voluntary organization, which encourages and supports children (aged 4-15) w
ho are learning instrumental music (violin & ‘cello) through an approach known as the “Suzuki Method”. Following the horror of the war, he hoped to bring beauty into the lives of the children of his country. He believed, that if a child could learn to speak their native language, they could also learn to play a musical instrument. His motivation to encourage music making in children was focused on developing the child’s “whole being”, not just musical skills. In addition to music making, the opportunity to learn an instrument encourages the development of a child’s confidence, self-esteem, social skills, cognition, physical co-ordination and ability to organize. It also promotes creativity and is FUN! As Dr. Suzuki said, “I want to make good citizens.”
A key aspect of the approach is the committing of a common repertoire to memory, which enables the students to perform their pieces together as a group. The success of his approach has resulted in it being adopted by music teachers internationally. To facilitate this, Musicians in the Making stage a concert in the Cork City Hall annually. This enables all the Cork Suzuki students to have the experience of meeting each other and performing together. Every three years Musicians in the Making host a Summer Workshop that enables Suzuki students from all over Ireland and beyond, to come together for group sessions, master classes and orchestral work led by highly skilled Suzuki-trained teachers from home and abroad. These experiences have a huge positive impact on the children. You are very welcome to come and hear the children perform at:
The Annual Concert in City Hall (Every October)
& Annual Playathon (Every Spring)
