Early in this Pandemic , while bodies were being removed from hospitals in army trucks in Italy OPATSI fought to protect lives and our Healthcare system and called for building sites to be closed while a number of construction unions sided with the employers and fought to keep sites open.
It was , as far as we were concerned a simple choice, lives of workers ,their families and communities at large needed to be protected.
Thankfully sites closed and thankfully we will never know how many lives were saved .
If you need a union who will fight for you then OPATSI did not put the money above your health or that of your family. As construction reopened we refused to enter into an agreement with the CIF which did not protect workers with underlying health conditions or living with vulnerable relatives. Quiet simply we done the right thing at the right time. Did your union? Have you asked? Maybe you should. Maybe you should consider a union that walks the walk?
Who has you and your families back.

Cut the PUP. Exclude students.
Let’s get those who have lost their jobs back working in low paid work.
Buisness groups welcome today’s measures .
F*** sake don’t take this latest attack on working class people lying down.
If you’re out of work increase the property tax.
No mention of a wealth tax.
Use your vote and your voice. Join your union.
Austerity being loaded upon those once again least able to afford it.
This is the normal FF/FG the Greens were longing for 😡

I have studied in detail the Government’s new Housing policy and it’s ingenious!!!!
They are going to borrow the money to loan to the developers ( who bankrupt the country) to build homes.
They are then going to borrow more money to buy the homes, that they have already borrowed money to have built, off the developers that will then have gotten the money twice to build the homes. All makes perfect sense. 🤔🤔🤔

I was asked yesterday by a good friend, who was surprised, that I had not went mental online Re the golf gate scandal.
It was a fair question. Why had I chosen to not jump up and down demanding answers and resignations. After all being a Trade Union official that was supposed to stand up for workers and their families why I didn’t be seen to lead the charge, or at least contribute, to the frenzy around calling for blood.
What happened in a hotel in the West of Ireland with regards to breaching Covid 19 guidance is absolutely appalling.
So why didn’t I jump up and down online?
Simply put I have lost a much loved brother to suiside over the last few years, I’ve lost a a much loved Aunt to COVID in a nursing home. In many ways the opportunity not to say goodbye to the people I’ve loved and still love has left me empty.
I have been abused and trolled by the people that I have tried to support. I’m sure I haven’t gotten everything right ,but I have tried.
My good friend isn’t a union member, my good friend didn’t vote.

I am not happy that we have a Government of FF/FG/GREENS. But what it has given is an opportunity, at last the parties of the right have aligned finally laying to bed the pretence that they ever represented the interests of the workers and vulnerable in society, they have proved that it’s all about power and ministerial cars. The program for government has nothing new , Carbon taxes paid for by those least able to afford them, the private sector to deal with the housing crisis, a two tier health system .
There is now , for those who weren’t sure, a clear distinction between the parties that represent the haves and those who would implement a Socialist agenda that would strive to make Ireland a country that finally cherishes all the children equally, where access to Housing and Healthcare is based on need .
Today the Bankers and Builders are rubbing their hands in glee. However if those on the left can work together today has also presented a huge opportunity . Hopefully it is an opportunity that we grasp.
