Ready to take the next step in your career? 🥳Our Trainer Assessor Course has been designed for anyone who is an experienced Pool Lifeguard, Open Water Lifeguard, or Beach Lifeguard and wants to take the next step. On completion of the course, there is a probationary period (maximum of two years), and a National Trainer Assessor or a Mentor will support you.

This course is split into two sections. The core element which every trainer completes and then the qualification specialism section. The core trainer/assessor is 3 days and then the specialism varies in the number of days depending on which one you choose.

These three modules need to be completed to achieve a TA Core Qualification:

Day 1 - Train the Trainer
Day 2 - Train the Assessor
Day 3 - CPR and AED

To achieve a Qualification Specialism, you need to complete the following:

National Pool Lifeguard Qualification Trainer Assessor (2 days)
National Beach Lifeguard Qualification Trainer Assessor (3 days)
Open Water Lifeguard Qualification Trainer Assessor (1 day).

Where Can an NPLQ Take You? 🌅

Your journey doesn't stop after your first qualification. In fact, it's just the beginning! Many candidates progress into Beach Lifeguarding, where they get to work on some of the most beautiful coastlines, or Open Water Lifeguarding, where they get to experience the thrill of lifeguarding in a variety of aquatic environments. And for those who are passionate about sharing their knowledge, they can even move into Trainer/Assessor roles, where they get to inspire and educate the next generation of lifeguards. Even the strongest swimmers can get into difficulty. Changing weather, currents, fatigue or an unexpected medical emergency can happen without warning.

Swimming with a friend means someone is there to raise the alarm, offer assistance or call for help if needed. You cannot predict the future! Enjoy the water, but never take unnecessary risks🛟

🌊 Cold water shock can happen even on a warm summer's day!

The temperature of the air doesn't always reflect the temperature of the water. Entering cold water too quickly can cause an involuntary gasp, rapid breathing and a loss of control, making it difficult to stay calm.

To stay safe:

1. Enter the water slowly and allow your body time to adjust.
2. Never jump into unknown water.
3. Swim with others where possible.
4. Choose lifeguarded locations and always check local conditions before entering the water.

Respect the water, know your limits and enjoy it safely.

🏊 Getting ready for your National Pool Lifeguard Qualification? Here's a quick checklist to help you arrive prepared and ready to learn.

🏊 Be confident you can meet the NPLQ pre-entry swim requirements (including a 50m front crawl in under 60 seconds, 50m sidestroke, treading water and a surface dive).
🏊 Register your RLSS Tahdah account before the course.
🏊 Bring your swimwear, towel, shorts for rescue practice, comfortable clothing for classroom sessions, paper & pen, plus a packed lunch and drinks.
🏊 Get a good night's sleep and stay hydrated before Day 1.

Our instructors will guide you through every stage of the course, helping you build the skills and confidence needed to become a qualified lifeguard. We can't wait to welcome you in Galway, Cork and Dublin this weekend! 💙
