Treating a cold casualty using the burrito wrap system is still as relevant today as it has always been however it does require skill and resources to get right. On the other hand more portable and thermally efficient systems are available such as the BLIZZARD HEAT blanket ... check it it on www.SOS22.ie

Irish river, lake and sea water temperatures are close to their coldest at this time of the year. Just because the sun is out doesnt mean the water is warm. Cold shock can and does result in drowning and other fatal medical issues so be sensible around water and get home safely.

Course Summary - 1 Day

The recovery and management of a casualty suffering from drowning or cold water immersion related injuries is always challenging in the field. As it is the initial treatment that often determines the outcome, decisiveness is paramount. This one day introductory course (Level 1) provides students with a grounding in water recovery and casualty care techniques. It is ideal for those students who partake in watersports for recreational purposes and for those wishing to progress to Levels 2 (intermediate) and 3 (advanced) in the management and treatment of drowning and cold water immersion casualties.
