UCC Kung Fu

UCC Kung Fu Venue: Studio 4 Mardyke Arena

Training times:
Wednesdays 8:30-10:00pm All we can say is come along and give it a try and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

In the Fu Lung Chuan school of Kung Fu we strive to improve ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually so therefore we take a holistic approach to our training. We use our skills to help us in all aspects of our lives, be it the alleviation of stress in our personal lives, mental sharpness to help with exams or the ability to be able to defend ourselves against an attacker(s). As a result the

emphasis in our training is on improving our fitness, flexibility, strength, self -confidence, endurance and technique. As you progress there will also be emphasis on weapons, hardening and combat

In Fu Lung Chuan there is no such thing as a typical class, with each being individually challenging and diverse -
one night you could be doing kicks with Mohammad, the next maybe hardening with Mc Suibhne, followed, maybe on the weekend by a meditation session in the mountains after a nice hillwalk (as mentioned earlier we believe in diversity and what better place to clear your head then nature surrounded by the elements). Many people have different impressions of Kung Fu; some thinking it's about jumping around like a lunatic with others believing it's about aggression and fighting, with nothing being further from the truth. "A stranger is only a friend we haven't met yet"

A look back at the Lunar New Year 🎊🐎

We celebrated this Lunar New Year by sharing fortune cookies during one of our trainings (thanks Coach 🙏) and we had the opportunity to show off some of our skills during the joint event organised by the Chinese Society, Korean Society, and Japanese Society. After our performance we could also try traditional Chinese calligraphy and board games as well as traditional Korean clothes. An amazing evening 🤩

Earlier in January, our current financial officer Joseph, last year's captain Sam (already graduated), and Joey Clarke from Maynooth University performed the Jeet Kune Do style of Kung Fu during celebrations in the Cork City Hall 🔥

Videos from the performances in the next post 📸
