This year we highlighted the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the UN Women theme: “Rights. Justice. Action. for ALL Women and Girls.”
The event, organised by the MTU Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Office, brought our community together to reflect, listen and act. It was chaired by Dr Pio Fenton (VP People & Culture) with an opening address from President Professor Maggie Cusack, followed by inspiring contributions from Catherine Carty (UNESCO Chair for Inclusion), Ciara Mulcahy Linehan (Sexual Violence & Harassment Prevention Officer) and Claire Coughlan (Creativity & Change).
Together we explored how each of us can contribute to building a more equal, safe and inclusive campus and society for all women and girls.
The event also marked the launch of the MTU EDI Surveys & Focus Groups Report (2022–2025), sharing key insights and actions shaped by the voices of our staff and students.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and continues to support the journey towards a more inclusive MTU community.

We don’t talk about inclusion enough.
And when we do, we often forget where it really starts. Inclusion begins with us.
With the individual. With a regulated, curious, present mind.
Yesterday in Skövde, together with Mihaela Cojan from TUI Iasi, we created space for reflection, listening and honest conversation around what it means to grow an inclusive mind and why this work matters even more in leadership spaces, where decisions ripple outward and shape cultures.
Inclusive leadership is not only about what we do, but about how we think, feel and stay present with difference.
Grateful to the University of Skövde for the openness and hosting, and to the INGENIUM European University Alliance for creating spaces where these conversations can happen.
More of this.
More humanity.
More inclusive minds.

Today is White Ribbon Day, which launches the 16 Days of Action campaign that runs until 10 December. This is a global campaign to end violence against women and all forms of gender-based violence. Yesterday, we were proud to mark achievement in securing us the first university in the Republic of Ireland, but our journey is far from over as we all work together to end this violence in all its forms.

Today we had a Breakfast Briefing for PMSS staff with the President and members of the university Executive. This event not only included updates from senior leadership but it also provided an opportunity for staff to speak to them directly, asking questions and raising issues of importance across the different departments and functional areas. This is something that was requested through our EDI Staff Survey and included in our Athena Swan Action Plan following our Bronze Award so it was great to see it so well attended.

Trans pride flags are flying on our campuses today to mark Transgender Day of Remembrance, which is an opportunity for us to stand in solidarity with our trans and non-binary community at MTU. 🏳️⚧️
The day has been observed annually since it first began in November 1999, and its primary purpose is to mourn those lost to transphobic violence and to push for justice for the trans community worldwide. 🕯️
