La Caletta: Music from Sardinia to Ireland with the Academy of Maestro Aligi Deiana

“Leaving the safety of public teaching was a risky decision due to the uncertainties it entails, but I felt the need to have my own space free from institutional constraints where I could share my passion for music ".

Clear, firm, visionary, and above all courageous, is Aligi Deiana, a Pianist and Composer. He started his piano studies in Olbia with concert pianist Magdalena Holt. In 2007 he moved to Cork, Ireland’s second largest city, where he obtained a Bachelor Degree (BMus) and Master Degree (MMus) between the Cork School of Music and the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin. In 2016 Aligi decided to set up a piano school of his own, the Deiana Piano Academy (DPA): "a project created to give a space to the growing number of students who have been taking private lessons with me for some time" he says at his home in La Caletta. It is between Cork and La Caletta, that the Sardinian Pianist regularly commutes. On the one hand, the Emerald Isle surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean; on the other, the sunny Island, immersed in the warm Mediterranean Sea. Aligi Deiana, has decided to keep his feet in both lands, opening a second branch of the DPA in addition to the mother office in the province of Munster. Since January 2021 the other branch is operational in La Caletta which offers piano and music lessons both in person and online as well as a wide range of Exchange Programs, Master Classes and Workshops with prominent personalities on the local and international music scene.

He continues: “Since 2011, under the guidance of the renowned pianist Véronique Bonnecaze of the École Normale in Paris, I have performed as a concert pianist touring Europe, especially in the South of France at Chamber Music Festivals ". Then, in 2016, the great choice of founding the Deiana Piano Academy (www.dpacork.com): a school specialising in piano that operates through the London College of Music and Trinity College London, whose qualifications are recognised internationally. “The DPA has had many successes both in piano exams, and in regional and national competitions, where many students were awarded first place on several occasions". Currently the Academy has over 100 students, some of whom have become teachers or concert performers themselves. Thanks to the online courses in recent years, the school has students from all over the world.

Since January 2021 students of La Caletta have a choice to sit their piano and music exams in English or Italian. In a few days it will be the turn of Mattia Burrai, a 14 years old student from Siniscola, who will sit his level six exam with Trinity College London. Burrai has already represented the Deiana Piano Academy in the project "Il Mare Ci Unisce" at the Liceo Michelangelo Pira in Siniscola where he was awarded 3rd place. "Having a limited number of rooms, the Centre in La Caletta offers exchange programmes and summer courses, where students can learn in an organised and friendly environment" assures Aligi Deiana.

The Deiana Piano Academy are happy to announce the opening of a new centre in La Caletta, Sardinia, Italy, which offers classes to students of all ages and abilities.
