The olympics finally started last week and this is the perfect opportunity to practice your English pronunciation with words like - gymnastics, triathlon, waterpolo, rowing and rugby.

Different sports are played on different surfaces such as soccer is played on a pitch, tennis is played on a court and a track is used for athletes.
Remember to use phrases like - we were beaten by …. Or we won by … 1 second, 2 goals or 5 points.

Remember that an athlete represents their country in a particular sport.

Phrasals verbs are very common in spoken English and often describe an action. A phrasal verb is normally the combination of a verb and a preposition. Here are a few that I use all the time:

Get along - to have a good relationship.
I get along with my colleagues at work.

Take up - to start something new.
I have just taken up yoga and I love it!

End up - to arrive at an unexpected destination.
I wanted to be a dentist but I ended up being a lawyer.
