This is very exciting news for Cork and beyond! What a fantastic new opportunity for schools to build on their Traveller culture & heritage awareness as part of the now mandatory teaching of the Traveller history curriculum.

Not long now until our new exhibition at Cork Public Museum for Heritage Week celebrating the traditional Traveller camps at Spring Lane and the Black Ash. Come along on 19th Aug 11am - 12 noon. Free and all welcome @ Cork Folklore Project Tom Doig

Great news for Mayfield! The Infant Mental Health Home Visiting Programme is now available to families in the Mayfield area of Cork.

This free service supports expectant parents and families with children up to their 4th birthday, offering relationship-based support through home visits (and group opportunities where available). The focus is on helping parents understand and respond to their child’s emotional needs while supporting overall family wellbeing.

Families may benefit from support with:

Building strong parent–child relationships
Understanding their child’s development and behaviour
Adjusting to pregnancy, parenthood, or family changes
Managing stress and supporting family wellbeing
Linking with community supports

🎒 Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance 2026

Did you know?
The Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance is now open, and for the first time, eligible children aged 2 and 3 are now included.

This year the payment is:

👟 €160 for eligible children aged 2 to 11

📚 €285 for eligible children aged 12 to 22

The scheme opened on 3 June 2026 and applications close on 30 September 2026. Many families will receive the payment automatically, but if you do not receive a notification and think you may qualify, you can apply through MyWelfare.

This is a brilliant new service for young Travellers across the country. Traveller children can now access counselling support and trust that their counsellor/therapist is culturally aware and sensitive and trained in Traveller culture and anti-racist practice.
