I don't like singling out students in AOK-DANCE, as every student has their own journey and personal goals, of which I am so proud. But on this occasion I think it is only fair to single somebody out, as it's not every day you have a World Champion in the school. Kyle took home a gold medal at the Dance World Cup for his ballet solo. He also took a silver medal for his lyrical solo. And he finished 4th for his acro solo, narrowly missing the bronze medal by one tenth of a point.
Kyle had already achieved success over the years with the school, winning major awards in events such as Twilight, ADC, Dance Inspirations in the UK, and the Worlds at WLDF on several occasions. But the Dance World Cup is the biggest dance competition in the world. So to have not one, but two medals from the Dance World Cup really is an astonishing achievement.
Anyone who knows me, will know that when I opened the doors of my dance school, all I wanted to do is to pass on my passion for dance, and if I could do this to just one person, I'd be happy.
Kyle joined AOK-DANCE over 8 years ago, and is completely home-grown, having learned his skills in the school with lyrical, contemporary, ballet, acro, and jazz. He has also pushed boundaries, taking on pointe, an area normally only associated with female ballerinas, but now slowly opening up to male ballet dancers around the world.
As Kyle always says, once he started ballet it was a gamechanger for him. This was music to my ears, as I always tell students that ballet is the foundation to any style of dance, and ballet helped develop Kyle in to the dancer he is today.
His trust and loyalty to the school is something I will always remember, as the school has been very much intertwined with his journey. As well as solely attending AOK-DANCE for all classes, he volunteered to help with some of the younger classes and the boys dance, before becoming an assistant in some of these classes. No doubt he will return to help pass on his skills in the future to students of the school who all admire him so much.
To watch Kyle grow and flourish has been special, and I have no doubt there is more to come. I have been delighted to teach Kyle. He has built a great foundation to see him on his next chapter in his professional training in dance, and I have no doubt that if he sticks to this work ethos, loyalty, and dedication, he will go far.
