Please take care over the st Patrick's day celebrations.

☘️ Motorists are being urged to plan ahead and never drive after drink or drugs this St Patrick’s Bank Holiday.

The appeal was issued by Minister of State Jerry Buttimer TD, the RSA and An Garda Síochána at the 2026 National Safer Roads Road Safety Conference and Exhibition in Killarney.

With parades and celebrations taking place across the country, road users are reminded to plan their travel safely. If you plan to drink, leave the car at home and organise a safe way home. You can use public transport, pre-book a taxi or arrange a designated driver.

An Garda Síochána will carry out enhanced roads policing enforcement from 7am Thursday 12 March to 7am Wednesday 18 March.

Let’s all enjoy the celebrations and get home safely.

Some key guidelines to remember the morning after drinking alcohol:

⏳ The only cure is time – after drinking, the only way to expel alcohol from your body is to wait.
🕒 It takes roughly one hour for a unit of alcohol to leave the body – one unit is a standard measure of spirit, wine, or a half glass of beer.
😴 Fatigue magnifies the impairment effect of alcohol – if you went to bed very late after consuming alcohol, you may not be fit to drive the next day.

Never ever drink and drive.
