🌳🛝 The Power of Play! 💙

Having a fantastic playground right beside Scoil na mBuachaillí is a real bonus — and one we love to make the most of!

Play and outdoor activity are such an important part of childhood. Time to move, explore and play helps our boys develop confidence, coordination, friendships and social skills, while also supporting their wellbeing, regulation and readiness to learn. 🏃‍♂️🤸‍♂️🌿

Sometimes a change of environment, some fresh air and the freedom to play can make all the difference to a child’s day. ☀️😊

A wonderful community facility right on our doorstep — and another space where our boys can learn, grow and simply enjoy being children. 💙🌳🛝

Our dedicated Music Room at Scoil na mBuachaillí provides a vibrant space where pupils can learn, play, create and develop a love of music. 🎶💙

Our boys have the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic variety of instrumental tuition:

🎸 Guitar with Kay O’Flynn
🪈 Tin Whistle with Kay O’Flynn
🎹 Keyboard with Kay O’Flynn
🥁 Drums with Eoin Barclay
🎺 Brass Instruments with Ger Condon

From the first note to performing a full tune, these classes give our pupils the chance to try new instruments, develop their musical talents, build confidence and experience the joy of making music. 🎼✨

We are very fortunate to have a space dedicated to music and such a wonderful variety of musical opportunities available to our boys. 🎶🎺🥁🎸🎹💙

🐔💙 Gloria, Rita & Betty are Back! 🐔🥚🌿

After enjoying their own summer holidays, Gloria, Rita and Betty are back home at Scoil na mBuachaillí! 🐔🐔🐔

Our resident hens are a much-loved part of school life and are carefully looked after by Ms O’Shea’s 3rd Class. 💙 The boys take great pride in making sure the ladies are fed, watered, checked on and comfortable, as well as keeping an eye out for those precious freshly laid eggs! 🌾💧🐔🥚

Caring for the hens gives the boys a real sense of responsibility and ownership. They learn that having animals means looking after them every day, noticing what they need and making sure they are happy and well cared for. 🌱💚

And today came one of the rewards! 🥚➡️🧁 The boys collected fresh eggs from Gloria, Rita and Betty and used them to make some delicious buns. 👨‍🍳😋

From caring for our hens to collecting their eggs and baking with them — learning doesn’t get much more hands-on than that! 🐔🥚🧁🌿💙

🥊 Supporting Team Ireland! 🥊

There was plenty of green, white and gold around Scoil na mBuachaillí today as we held a Non-Uniform Day in support of the eight local athletes representing Ireland at the World Youth Kickboxing Championships in Italy.

We are particularly proud that former SNB pupil Joseph Cahalane is among the athletes heading to Italy.

A huge thank you to all our pupils and families for getting behind the fundraiser and supporting West Cork Kickboxing Club.

A fantastic achievement for these young athletes and their club. Best of luck to Joe and all the Irish team — we’ll be cheering you on from Clonakilty! 🇮🇪☘️🥊

Gaeilge Beo i Rang a Ceathair! 🎭

It may only be our second week back at school, but our 4th Class pupils are already busy creating, speaking and performing through Irish!

This week, the boys brought Na Trí Mhuicín to life. 🐷🐷🐷🐺 Working together in groups, they created their own stáitse (stage), developed their drama and then performed it for their classmates – as Gaeilge!

There was plenty of imagination, teamwork and fun along the way, but most importantly, the boys were using their Irish naturally and confidently through drama and performance.

A great example of Gaeilge being more than something we learn from a book — Gaeilge á labhairt, á cruthú agus á baint taitneamh aisti! 💙

Maith sibh, Rang a 4! 👏

🌻 From Our Garden to Next Year’s Garden 🌱

Our 3rd Class pupils were busy making the most of the September sunshine and getting hands-on in our school garden!

The boys have been harvesting and saving seeds from our sunflowers, marigolds and sweet peas, carefully collecting them so they can be planted again next spring. 🌻🌼🌱

It was a lovely opportunity to learn about the life cycle of plants, where seeds come from and how a little care now can bring a whole new burst of colour next year.

Plenty of teamwork, curiosity and very careful seed collecting — with quite a few expert gardeners emerging along the way! 💙

Saving today’s seeds for tomorrow’s garden. 🌱🌻

🌿 3rd Class – A Brilliant Start! 💙

Our 3rd Class boys are off to a fantastic start! This week they took their learning outdoors with a nature walk — exploring, observing, chatting and enjoying plenty of fun along the way. 🍃🌳

It was also a great opportunity for the boys to spend time together and reconnect after the summer.

💙 2nd Class – A Great Start!

What a lovely start to the school year for our 2nd Class boys, who have been amazing settling back into school, reconnecting with friends and getting back into their learning and routines.

There was plenty of time for fun too, with a trip to the playground during their first week — climbing, swinging, exploring, laughing and enjoying being together again.

A lovely reminder that school is about learning, friendships, fun and shared experiences — all the things that make our school such a happy place to be. 💙

🧩 Serious Learning. Serious Fun. 💙

Can you believe these are our new Junior Infants who only joined us on Tuesday? 🌟

Just a few days into their school journey and they are already amazing! They have been busy building, creating, problem-solving, exploring, sharing and making new friends.

And it’s not just in the classroom — we have been so proud of how brilliantly they have managed break time on the yard too, finding their way, playing together and taking another big new experience completely in their stride. 💙

It has been lovely to watch their confidence grow with each passing day.

Only here since Tuesday… and already right at home. What a fantastic start, boys! ⭐
