RIPE OR NOT?
It's harvest time in the fruit and vegetable garden and a few weeks ago a polytunnel friend brought us some peaches and nectarines, “the peaches might need another few days”, he said and he was right. After a few days on the kitchen counter they were perfect, sweet and juicy. At the same time a few green tomatoes in our polytunnel were knocked down during watering and we put them in a tray to ripen in the kitchen. And finally we read an article in our favourite German garden magazine titled "Ripe or not?", which we summarize in our blog post HERE: https://www.neantog.com/garden-articles/2026/7/30/ripe-or-not
Peaches and tomatoes are climacteric, which means they continue to ripen off the tree or the stalk, but when a fruit or vegetable is ripe and when it's harvested are often two very different things. Our blog reveals all about climateric and non-climateric fruit and vegetables and the role of ethylen in all of that.
