We strive to provide a nurturing environment for all our students, encouraging them to reach their potential whilst having a lot of fun. Our classes are structured in a relaxed format with exams available for those students who want them from the 'Irish Board of Dance Performance'. The IBDP is an Irish-based dance examining body offering performance-based, encouraging and child-centred exams. We aim to inspire confidence and expression through dance for all our students.

BALLET IS GROWING AT KMDS 💗
We’ve had a wonderful response to our September Ballet programme. Our Baby Ballet and Primary Ballet classes in Tubbercurry, along with Primary Ballet in Castlebar, are now fully booked.

For older dancers, places are still available in St Brigids Hall Tubbercurry:

🩰 JUNIOR BALLET
Ages 7–14
Mondays, 5:30pm–6:15pm

🩰 GRADE 2 BALLET
Ages 8–16
Mondays, 6:15pm–7:00pm

Both classes help dancers develop stronger technique, musicality, confidence and performance quality through supportive, progressive teaching.

TUBBERCURRY ACRO — A PLACE TO START AND GROW St Brigids Hall🤸‍♀️

Our beginner Acro class gives children aged 4–6 a fun, supportive introduction to acrobatics.

Children work progressively on:

⭐ Balance and coordination
⭐ Strength and flexibility
⭐ Safe rolls, shapes and beginner skills
⭐ Confidence, independence and body awareness

As their skills develop, dancers can continue progressing through KMDS Acro Classes 2 and 3—building strong foundations at every stage.

WHAT DO DANCERS DEVELOP IN GRADE 2 BALLET? 🩰

Grade 2 is about much more than learning the next set of steps. Dancers begin to show greater control, musical understanding and confidence in how they perform each exercise.

At KMDS, students work progressively on:

• Stronger alignment and turnout foundations
• Controlled arms, posture and coordination
• Musical timing and expression
• Confidence in longer combinations

Our Monday Grade 2 Ballet class in Tubbercurry currently has space for suitable dancers aged 8–16

MEET KATIE GAFFNEY — KMDS OWNER & PRINCIPAL TEACHER 💗

Katie has been teaching since 2016 and has proudly run the Katie Mairead Dance School since 2022.

Her love of dance began at just three years old. As a former CLRG Irish dancer, Katie competed at major Irish Dance championships, including:

☘️ The Connacht Championships
☘️ The Irish National Championships
☘️ The CLRG World Irish Dancing Championships

Her professional qualifications and training also include:

• RAD, IDTA and IBDP ballet and dance qualifications
• Acrobatic Arts Module One Teacher Certification
• Official FitKid Coach
• University of Limerick-Exercise & Health Fitness — qualified Fitness/Gym Instructor

Katie’s approach is built around safe progression, positive encouragement and recognising every child’s individual achievements.

Our Acro Arts Class 1 in Tubbercurry provides a friendly and supportive introduction to acro for younger children.

Through safe, age-appropriate activities, children will begin developing:
