🌊🐠 Ahoy, Mateys! 🏖️⚓

This week at Memory Lane Preschool, we made a splash with our Under the Sea and Beach theme!

We kicked off the week chatting about trips to the beach, what we might pack in our beach bags, and all the exciting things we can see and do by the sea. The children loved sharing their ideas before diving into learning about all sorts of fascinating sea creatures. We also revisited some important water safety tips from last week’s discussions.

Messy Day saw our little fishermen and fisherwomen cast their lines in search of the catch of the day! 🎣 The water play was a huge hit, with plenty of splashing, exploring, and sensory fun.

As the week went on, our imaginations set sail as we climbed aboard our boat and headed off on a fishing adventure! While reaching, twisting, and stretching to catch fish with their rods, the children were building core strength, developing hand-eye coordination, and practising important motor skills, all while having an absolute whale of a time! 🐳

From beach chats and sea creatures to fishing trips and water play, it was a week full of laughter, learning, and adventure beneath the waves.

Today at Memory Lane we had our very own lemonade stand and the kids absolutely loved it! 🍋☀️

We enjoyed delicious freshly squeezed lemonade down in the garden on such a beautiful sunny day. Full of smiles, laughter, and lots of summer fun 🌼💛

🚀✨ We are BLASTING into Space Week! ✨🚀

Yesterday, we had an out-of-this-world chat all about space! 🌍🪐 The children learned our super fun space song and can now name all of the planets like real little astronauts! 🌟 They also loved watching a video all about space and thought it was HILARIOUS that we live in the Milky Way… just like the chocolate bar! 🍫😂

Today, our little space explorers got busy building LEGO rockets ready for lift-off! 🚀🧱 The children were so creative, adding windows, doors, speedy jets and lots of special touches to make sure their rockets were ready to zoom to the stars! 🌙✨ We definitely have some future rocket scientists in our classroom! 👩‍🚀👨‍🚀

We finished up our Water Safety Week at Memory Lane with some fun water safety colouring sheets and a little chat all about what we had learned during the week 🌊💙 We were absolutely blown away by how much the kids remembered, they were little superstars! ⭐👏

We also had the loveliest visit from Sinead at Sonas Yoga, Celbridge 🧘‍♀️✨ The children absolutely adored her and had so much fun trying all the different yoga poses, stretches, and movements 😄💛 There were lots of giggles, smiles, and happy little yogis all around 🥰🌈

🌊💙 Yesterday, Teacher Elana attended a Hold Hands seminar with Water Safety Ireland to take part in a refresher course on water safety. 🛟

👏 The seminar was excellent, and Elana came back with lots of creative ideas on how to talk to our little friends about staying safe in and around water. 💡👶

🌿✨ This morning, we went down to our Magic Garden, where the children were introduced to a lifebuoy 🛟 and learned how it can be used to help someone in the water.

🦺🌊 We also explored some water safety props, and the children had great fun practising putting on and getting used to wearing life vests and arm bands while learning how these help to keep us safe in the water. 😊💙

⭐🐟 We practised our “float like a starfish” technique, so that if we ever got into difficulty in the water, we would know how to stay calm and safe. 🌊😊

🎨🏖️ We had a fabulous messy play day with our imaginative beach, where the children explored when it is safe to swim in the sea by learning about the different coloured flags displayed on beaches 🚩🌊.

Another fun-filled day here at Memory Lane Preschool! 🌊☀️

Today we learned all about the different beach flags and how they help keep us safe by showing when and where it’s safe to swim. The children loved discovering the meanings behind each flag and talking about water safety.

We also carried out a fun little science experiment with an orange 🍊 We explained that the orange peel acted like a life vest when the orange had its “life vest” on, it floated in the water, but once we peeled it, the orange sank to the bottom! The children’s reactions were priceless and it was a great way to show the importance of wearing a life vest and staying safe around water.

To finish off the day, we played a colour reaction game using our balls. It involved a lot of bilateral thinking. Each child held two different coloured balls and when Teacher Michael called out a colour, they had to quickly hold up the correct one. This helped develop their colour recognition skills as well as their listening and reaction times. 🎨⚽
