TY students enjoyed a visit from Reptile Haven yesterday and got the opportunity to get up close to, hold and feed some animals. These included chameleons, geckos, lizards, tortoises, small snakes, and even a 13 foot python! A big thank you to Mélanie for this engaging workshop which the students really enjoyed.

Well done to Daria Maslinca and James Fitzpatrick, 1S for competing in the Europe Direct Soapbox Public Speaking Competition. The event took place just before midterm in the beautiful Monaghan Peace Campus.The motion was 'Is It Time the EU Banned Social Media for Under 16s'. Daria and James showed great courage and self-confidence as they competed against older students in the Under 16s category. It was very good experience for our talented young debaters.

House System: First half term completed and time for an update on the house system leaderboard. There has been great involvement in the extra curricular activities, competitions and volunteering your time this year. The attendance has made a huge difference to the league standings with some houses having added close to 200 points for perfect attendance.

Everybody has a chance of gaining 20 points each for perfect attendance for November and December. If you are involved in a school activity or game for the school team, you will still be able to gain the points for perfect attendance.

Our F2 pupils visited the Cavan County Museum in Ballyjamesduff yesterday. They were brought on a guided tour of replica Trenches from WW1 and visited the replica of The GPO from 1916 Rising. The pupils filled out an activity sheet based on the many displays in the museum from the GAA to the Medieval sections to the Modern Broken pieces Museum.

This week Climate Action Week was highlighted at the Royal School Cavan and among the many activities were: poster competitions, transition year presentations on climate awareness, and time spent litter picking around the school. Congratulations to the winners of the Climate Action Poster competition: Kamila Majek, Abi Morris & Aaliyah Touzout. Well done also to the Green Schools Committee and everyone involved on making this a very successful Climate Action Week.

Shoeboxes need to be dropped into Ms. Poyntz’s room by November 7th. Leaflets still available from the school & more information is on www.teamhope.ie
