What a wonderful day our pupils from 4th to 6th class had at ESB Science Blast in the University of Limerick on Wednesday, the 20th of May. The children thoroughly enjoyed the engaging science talks and explored the science fair, where their imagination and curiosity were sparked at every turn. We are especially proud of Mr. Moynihan’s class who represented our school so well with their own project exploring memory. It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved and a lovely celebration of learning, discovery and creativity.

We are incredibly proud of the boys and girls of Ballygown NS who represented our school so wonderfully at Cork City Sports in MTU on Thursday, the 28th of May. They did themselves, their families and our whole school community proud with their hard work, determination and team spirit. Congratulations to everyone involved on the fantastic achievement of winning eight trophies, as well as ‘Best Overall Girls’ and ‘Best Overall Boys’ in their group. A huge well done to our pupils for giving it their all and a massive thank you to Mrs. Kiely for training the pupils. More photos to follow!

History was made for Ballygown in Kildorrery yesterday when we pulled off our first ever hurling-camogie double in the North Cork Sciath na Scol finals. In the type of blistering heat that had all the supporters exhausted from the effort of just watching, our boys and girls seemed impervious and covered every blade of grass in their determination to win.
Our boys won the B1 final against Dromahane, and our girls, in their first ever final, clinched a win over Araglin in the C2 final. Celebrations were curtailed due to our summer concert being held in the afternoon, but the memories will live long!
The team benefited from tremendous encouragement from the stand, and we are, as always, grateful for the support!

Today’s assembly celebrated some recent successes, both in and out of school. We featured Caoimhe’s success at Feis Maitiu and the Dance World Cup qualifiers, Kate’s wins at the Cork Area Irish Pony Society, Fionn’s rugby team’s 3 trophies this season and Dayvd’s soccer medal. We also heard from our inaugural tennis and chess teams who performed well this year, belatedly congratulated our Scór performers, presented medals to our hurling team who won the Sciath na Scol mini 7’s and celebrated with our camogie and hurling teams who both qualified for the Sciath na Scol finals in the coming weeks. With all that going on, we ran out of time before we could hear from Daniel who played in the Primary Game, or Bartley who has been named Cork Schoolboys League U12 player of the year – we will need another assembly after his presentation!

Best of luck to Daniel, travelling to Walsh Park today to take part in the primary game. Daniel is an exceptionally talented young man, who consistently works hard and we are delighted that he has been given this opportunity to wear the Cork jersey. We are all looking forward to hearing the stories next week! Our thanks as always to John Hannon, for his support, training and of course, the fabulous photographs.
