An Chistin An Chistin is a state-of-the-art training and community kitchen located in Castlerea, Co. Roscommon.

An Chistin currently offers a full-time 48 week QQI Level 5 Course in Professional Cookery under the auspices of the GRETB. We are currently in the process of developing ‘An Chistin’ a state of the art food training and development kitchen in a vacant section of the premises. The overall aim is to assist unemployed people in the area of Castlerea and surrounding areas which are not otherwise cater

ed for and to aid them to move towards employment by providing community based training and work experience leading to a nationally recognized qualification. By securing funding to provide a full time QQI Level 5 Professional Cookery Course from GRETB with the assistance of Roscommon Leader Partnership we can look forward to providing up to 14 students a year with the opportunity of gaining a level 5 award thus enabling them to continue with further education or taking up a position in the hospitality industry.

COMPETITION TIME!

Follow Castlerea Food Fest to be in with a chance to win tickets for two of their SOLD-OUT events!

Castlerea Food Fest is a series of foodie events happening during this summer's Castlerea Rose Festival.

The Food Fest is kicking off with a fantastic Sunday Food Fair in the Hub on the 26th of July.

On Monday the 27th, we will have an award winning TV Chef in our Live Cookery Demo.

There will be a host of other fantastic events, organised by local food businesses, running throughout the week.

Guided Foraging and Wild Food Walk at Clonalis House, as part of the

Date & time - Thursday 30th July 2pm

Roscommon County Council Biodiversity Dept is sponsoring this event.

Duration: Approximately 2–2.5 hours

This interactive walk introduces participants to the diversity of edible wild plants growing within the grounds of Clonalis House. Drawing on many years of experience as a forager & food tour guide Margaret from will guide participants in identifying a range of common & seasonal wild foods, discussing their traditional uses, culinary potential & sustainable harvesting practices.

The course will start with a tasting of homemade wild food crackers, seasonal dip & a wild-inspired drink, providing an opportunity to chat about how wild plants can be used in our cooking.

The walk focuses on wild plants & their role in biodiversity, heritage and Irish food culture. Participants will learn how I incorporate wild ingredients into their cooking & food experiences.

Please note that fungi identification is not included as part of this walk.
