PRIMARY SCHOOL:
A fun and educational course were children, (4 to 12 years old) are encouraged to create their own piece of theatre through drama games and improvisation. Children are encouraged to make decisions and take responsiblity for those decisions in a safe context.The course is led by experienced drama teachers Brigid and Jackie, who will facilitate, guide and refine the children's colla
borations. SECONDARY SCHOOL
Castleknock Youth Drama is an improv-based drama course for teenagers who want to explore creative ways to express themselves. Meeting on Thursday evenings in Room 1, Laurel Lodge Community Centre. 6pm - 8pm (age 13+)
BRIGID MOLONY
Brigid Molony, B.A. (Hons), HDip, ALSMD, LLSMD is a First Class Honours graduate of the Theatre Studies Programme with a second degree in Art History from the University of McMaster, Ontario, Canada. Brigid completed her teaching studies at Griffith College, Dublin as part of the inaugural Higher Dimploma in Arts specialising in Drama in Education. In Canada, Brigid was an active member of the local theatre community on and off stage. She was also a member of an improv comedy group which began as a television show and then toured comedy clubs and universities in Toronto. Since moving to Ireland, Brigid has been an active member of community theatre, working with groups such as the Coolmine Drama Circle and Le Touche Players where she recently enjoyed playing the role of Kate Mundy in ‘Dancing at Lughnasa’. For the past few years, Brigid has been working in classroom, both locally in St. Brigids N.S., Castleknock and also in secondary schools. Bringing drama into the curriculum allows students to gain a great empathy for their subject matter. A true lover of the arts, Brigid also plays music, including guitar, clarinet, saxophone, mandolin and the banjo. She has also been known to sing but only in the shower! JACKIE DOCKRY
Jackie Dockry graduated with a B.A (Hons) in Drama in 1994, as part of her course she studied Theatre-In-Education. Her first job was with the National Trust in the U.K. Her role was to devise and perform in historical plays for primary schools in Derbyshire and London. From 1996 to 2006 she worked as an Educator for Life Education, the U.K's largest children's health education charity. The programme used a life-skills based approach for primary school children, and drama played a fundamental part in the development of critical thinking, positives attitudes, communication and assertiveness skills. She moved to Dublin in 1998 and joined La Touche Players, devising and performing her first solo piece "Love God". Her first radio play "Would Like To Meet" was short-listed for the R.T.E P.J O'Connor award, it was later adatped for stage. In 2009 she wrote her first full-length play "Party Girl". She has written for a number of theatre companies including th Dublin Shakes, La Touche, Sweet and Dry and Shift. As well as writing she has acted in the Dublin Fringe, notably Nic Green's "Trilogy" and her last outing on stage was in Tom Murphy's "Whistle In The Dark" at Liberty Hall. For the last two years, she has taught a drama class specifically designed for pre-school children in a montessori in Castleknock, it was doing these classes that she began devising plays with the children, using improvisation games. She hopes to expand her experience of devised theatre with children, and is very excited about the adventures that lie ahead with Acting Up!
