Thank you for helping us spread the word about our new Junior Cycle History resource!
Developed by iCAN and The Heritage Council, this free guide provides students with practical tools to research local history, conduct interviews, explore historical records, and share their findings.
Available in English and Irish, it supports The Past in My Place History CBA1 while encouraging young people to engage with their local heritage!
A new educational resource has been launched by the Irish Community Archive Network (iCAN) in collaboration with The Heritage Council to support Junior Cycle students researching the history and heritage of their local area. The guide is designed to help students undertaking The Past in My Place strand of Junior Cycle History Classroom-Based Assessment 1 (CBA1).
The free resource provides practical, step-by-step guidance on choosing a research topic, conducting local and family history research, carrying out oral history interviews, accessing historical records and presenting findings in an engaging way. Available in both English and Irish, it aims to inspire students to become active historians by uncovering the people, places and stories that have shaped their communities.
Developed from historian Tomás Mac Conmara's acclaimed local history guide and adapted for the classroom by Dr Eoin Ó Donnchadha of The Heritage Council, the publication supports both students and teachers in making meaningful connections between classroom learning and Ireland's rich local heritage.
