Zane is one of Music West's violin teacher. She studied classical violin and music theory in The Latvian State College of Music in Jelgava for 8 years. She has travelled and studied traditional music in Sweden, Norway and Finland. The interest in Irish traditional music brought her to Ireland. She has taken classes in Traditional Irish Music Summer schools. Zane has been a member of Cór MaighEo Choir for over 20 years and has been a violinist with Mayo Concert orchestra for several years.

Zane has been teaching violin for 20 years. She works with children and adults of all ages and abilities. Students can take exams with Royal Irish Academy of Music. Come to our Open Day on Sat 30th August 3-5pm to meet Zane and other teachers.

💜Go Purple Day💜

Go Purple Day is a joint initiative led by An Garda Síochána and domestic abuse services across Ireland. Together, we aim to raise awareness about supports and services available to people who experience domestic abuse, and to advocate together for a society with zero tolerance of domestic abuse.

Wear purple attire, bake purple treats, decorate your surroundings, or illuminate your home, business, school, or meeting space in purple. Capture and share your photos, use the hashtag in your social media posts.

The color purple symbolizes love, strength, dignity, and independence – qualities of a compassionate community committed to eradicating abuse and violence against women and girls.

Going purple this Friday is a powerful yet simple gesture. It shows solidarity with those experiencing domestic abuse, conveying a strong message – ‘you are not alone’ and ‘help is always available’.

Together, we can foster a society that refuses to tolerate the crime of domestic abuse.

Sarah Harding's study says Breast-cancer checks could begin as young as 30 to catch disease early. The checks wouldl see how far breast density is a risk factor in younger women, who are known to often have more dense breasts, but are rarely screened. Women with dense breasts are four times more likely to develop breast cancer, but tissue can also mask tumours on a mammogram, making disease harder to spot.

Dense Breast Tissue Notification: A Vital Step Toward Early Detection

As someone who has personally faced lobular breast cancer, I know how critical early and accurate detection can be. That’s why the new legislation requiring women to be informed if they have dense breast tissue on their mammograms is so important.

Dense breast tissue can make cancers harder to detect and is itself a risk factor. Being informed gives women the power to ask more questions, seek additional screening, and make educated decisions about their health.

This change isn’t just medical—it’s deeply personal. It’s about giving women the information they need to protect themselves and advocate for their wellbeing.

Five Years Ago This Weekend: A Life-Changing Moment

This weekend, five years ago, at the very beginning of Covid, I had a mastectomy after discovering a 7.2 cm tumor. I was incredibly lucky—I got in for my last mammogram just before the screening program shut down due to the pandemic. Even luckier, that mammogram picked up three tiny dots, leading to my diagnosis.

For many women with lobular breast cancer and dense breast tissue, the outcome isn’t always as fortunate. Lobular cancer is often harder to detect on a standard mammogram because it grows in thin lines rather than lumps. Dense breast tissue can also mask tumors, making them harder to spot. Yet, many women don’t even know they have dense breasts because they aren’t routinely informed.

Women deserve to know their breast density so they can advocate for additional screening like ultrasound or MRI—tools that could catch cancers earlier and save lives.

Breast cancer awareness isn’t just about knowing the signs—it’s about knowing your risk and having access to the right screening. If you’ve had a mammogram, ask about your breast density. It could make all the difference. Watch video to learn more and Please Share
