ABOUT

About Us
At Jennifer Slattery, we create timeless products from Irish linen and lambswool. From napkins and table runners to shirts and scarfs, each piece is made in Ireland and hand-finished in The Old Butcher’s Studios in Smithfield, Dublin 7. We are a small team of two who are proud to collaborate and partner with exceptional Irish weavers and suppliers. Together, we create everyday items that are designed to last.

Our Beginnings
Our name comes from our founder Jennifer, whose pull to knitting and sewing saw her leave her job as a graphic designer in a Dublin design studio in 2007 to study textiles in the National College of Art & Design. Jennifer’s approach to design is rooted in a sense of nostalgia and celebration, which can be seen in motifs of her grandmother’s cutlery, and in the distinctive wildflowers that adorn her work. The company was founded after Jennifer’s grad show pieces sold out in a matter of days in 2011, and today you can find Jennifer Slattery textiles in a host of Irish and international retailers, including our own studio. The Studio
In 2014, we took on the renovation of a redbrick corner of Benburb Street that had been boarded up. Alongside our neighbour and pal, Jamie Lewis of The Wool Felt Shop, we restored the two shops side by side in a complementary approach that respects their Victorian heritage. Both the shutters and the boards that covered the windows were repurposed into display shelving and today, we have Krass Clement and David Jazay photographs on display that chronicle some of the building’s history. We often welcome in visitors who have fond memories of Martin & Joyce butchers who occupied the building for many years and served Jennifer’s own grandmother, who lived locally. Our embroidery designs always begin as hand-drawn illustrations that are tweaked and coloured before the final design is transferred to a computer. From concept to finished product, steps of the process can be seen in action at our open studio at 72-74 Benburb Street, where we design through sampling. In between are trips around Ireland visiting our trusted partners in Down, Donegal, Wexford and all over Dublin. Our Production
We are passionate about natural textiles and responsible sourcing. We are proud of the strong relationships we have forged with the brilliant suppliers and manufacturers that we work hand in hand with. From flax to final product, we know and can vouch for every part of the production process. All our packaging is fully recyclable. Collaborate With Us
Some of our best ideas have been born out of community and collaboration. If you think we could work well together, we would love to hear from you. Email us at [email protected].

One of the things I’ve loved most about working with Irish linen over the past 15 years is being able to develop fabrics especially for the collection.

I’ve worked with Stephen and his team at Emblem Weavers Export Ltd since I started the business, and from very early on I began commissioning them to weave linen in special colours and patterns made just for us.

For this new Prince of Wales check, Stephen went digging through his stock of yarns to find a deep red that is no longer made. We had just enough to weave around 90 metres of the cloth, so it’s a particularly small run.

I love the colour. Woven with ivory, the deep red changes beautifully depending on the light and what you wear it with. At times it almost has a soft pink quality.

I wore the new Margo Top and Wide Leg Pants for our 15th birthday dinner. It felt special to wear something made from a cloth we had developed together, but it was also incredibly comfortable.

The photographs taken on the night by Jasmine Jasmine Isabella Hughes captured such a beautiful evening 🤍

I’m very happy to finally have the Margo two-piece on the website after so many of you asked about it!

The Margo Top and Wide Leg Pants are now available online, made in this small run of Irish linen woven for us by Emblem

A little Maud news 💙

We’re making a small batch of the oversized Maud in this beautiful cobalt blue Irish linen. It’s one of those pieces we are asked about again and again, so we thought our 15th birthday was the perfect excuse to bring her back.

The linen is particularly beautiful in this colour and has been woven especially for us by Emblem Weavers.

The preorder is now open on the website, so if you’ve had your eye on the Maud, this is your chance to get one. Maybe for yourself, or perhaps a very good gift for someone special.

And some of you have already spotted the link on the website and got your orders in… 😂💙

Thank you, as always, for the lovely response.

A little bit of excitement for this Saturday morning…

I’ll be joining a brilliant bunch of Irish designers for the Fashion Conversation at Design Week Dublin Design Week Dublin , talking about fashion, making and running an independent Irish design business. I’m really looking forward to the conversation and to hearing from the other designers on the panel too. COLIN BURKE JOANNE HYNES Paula Rowan Róisín Linnane

And as we slowly restock and add new pieces to the studio and online, I should mention that our new Margo is currently in stock in the studio and online. 🤍

Post-summer catch up ☀️

I’ve been a little quiet on here lately, mostly because there has been a lot happening behind the scenes!

After so many weeks of beautiful weather, lots of busy days and very little sitting still, it’s suddenly September and we’re back into some kind of routine.

We had a brilliant couple of weeks at Brown Thomas for CREATE, spent a lot of time in the studio making (and making and making) the Summer Meadow pieces (which we’re still working away on, so thank you so much for your patience) and met so many lovely customers along the way.

And somehow, in between all of that, we managed to squeeze in a little bit of actual summer too.

It’s been a particularly special year for us as we’re also celebrating 15 years in business, which still feels slightly mad to say out loud.

Now the kids are back at school, the studio is settling back into its usual rhythm and I’m feeling very ready for the next few months. There’s lots happening behind the scenes and I’m looking forward to sharing more of it with you.

So here’s a little look back at some of the summer - a bit of work, a bit of life and lots (and lots) of linen.

Happy September 🤍

Our limited edition Nancy Top has been so popular, and I can see why. The sky blue Irish linen is just beautiful and feels so fitting with the gorgeous blue skies we've been enjoying across Ireland lately.

We only have a few of these pieces left now.

Nancy is one of those timeless styles that I love coming back to. It can be worn in so many different ways, layered, tucked in or left loose, making it such an easy piece to have in your wardrobe.

I love how Erica () styles hers. She has such a playful and effortless way of layering linen that always inspires me.

Happy Sunday from sunny Ireland ☀️☀️💙

EXCITING Announcement 📣 🎉 We're getting ready for two weeks at CREATE at Brown Thomas Brown Thomas ✨ From 16–30 July you'll find our collection in store, and I'll be there throughout the two weeks if you'd like to pop in, say hello, or see our pieces up close.

Back in the studio, it's all hands on deck at the moment. This week we're busy sewing and embroidering, getting each piece ready to bring with us.

One of the pieces is our new Summer Meadow Skirt – a longer version of our much-loved Winnie skirt, made from beautifully textured twill woven Irish linen and embroidered in our Dublin studio with delicate meadow flowers inspired by the Irish landscape.

It's the kind of skirt that's easy to wear all summer long – with our Summer Meadow Vest as a set, or simply with a favourite knit when the evenings turn cooler.

We can't wait to share the collection with you and tell you the stories behind each piece. We also have some lovely special edition pieces exclusively for CREATE. Please pop in if you are passing through Brown Thomas between 16–30 July, we'd love to see you there. 🌼

The heatwave continues here in Ireland (and Europe is pretty hot!)☀️ and I don't know about you, but I'm reaching for all the light, airy pieces in my wardrobe!

I've been loving our Winnie & Rose set. Made in our custom-woven Irish gingham, it's easy to wear, comfortable, and has that lovely movement that feels so nice on a warm day.

I just love how the fab Erica Erica styles this two-piece and layers it too. Worn together, it feels effortless and fun, but both pieces work beautifully on their own as well, making them such useful wardrobe staples.

The Winnie Skirt has that gorgeous dipped hem and soft frill detailing, and yes, both the skirt and the top have pockets - always a winner in my book!

Perfect for sunny days, pottering in the garden, meeting friends for coffee, or simply making the most of this beautiful spell of weather while it lasts 🤍

I love how the Summer Meadow Skirt moves ✨

Each piece is embroidered in our studio, taking around 6 hours to complete. The embroidery gives the linen such a lovely weight and drape, which moves beautifully with the body.

A longer, flowing take on our much-loved Winnie silhouette, the embroidery is inspired by wild Irish hedgerows in bloom 🤍

I especially love it paired with the matching vest, though it would be just as lovely worn with a favourite knit. I’m always thinking about versatility in the pieces we make, creating pieces that feel easy to wear throughout the season. ✨
