Active week 2026 was pure magic this year...It transformed itself into an Active 2.5 weeks! 👌

The weather may have dampened our plans (literally) but our kids don't let a little thing like rain get in the way of a good time 😁 We were delighted to welcome homegrown talent Dom Ryan fitness back to put our senior classes through their paces.

Dom's team are popular fitness gurus right here in Bunclody and are always popular with our students, well for the first ten minutes, after that the circuits start to get real tough! 🤣💪

Hard to believe those lazy, hazy, crazy and suuperrr hot days of Summer we were having last week, when you look out the window this morning. But they happened and as we always do here in OLOL, we embraced the madness and ran with it 🤗

The ice cream truck usually brings it's own sense of excitement, but you haven't seen anything until you've seen it arrive in a primary school in the middle of a heatwave 🌞🌞🍦🍦Our beautiful horse chestnut tree at the front of the school provided some much needed shade and the sun provided a great science experiment as to what happens to some frozen things (like ice cream) when heat is applied...spoiler alert 🚨 it runs down your arm! 🤣

Ms. Byrne from 1st/2nd class was the unsung hero of the week when she brought the longest hose we've ever seen and a water sprinkler in from home and set up what was meant to be a cooling down station on the infant yard (but quickly turned into a toned down version of ninja warrior! Needless to say, a lot of fun was had 🥰🚿🥰

Breakfast Banter!!!!
On Friday we said goodbye to our wonderful 6th class crew. These boys and girls were the final Junior Infants class that enrolled under our former principal Mr. Roberts.

They were in Senior Infants when the dreaded Covid hit, robbing them of so many events and activities we had all taken for granted up until then. Since they joined us here in OLOL 8 years ago and all the others who joined in along the way, we heve watched them grow, from bouncing, excited infants into the kind, driven, happy and hard working gang that they are. We are all so proud of them as they head off on their next adventure to secondary school.

Now as you know, all that being awesome and amazing is very difficult to do on an empty stomach! Every year before the graduation mass, our two fabulous 6th class teachers, Ms Wade and Ms Fitzpatrick organise a 6th class breakfast/brunch as a final farewell. Some of the students brought in their favourite bits too 🥰

It is such a lovely way to spend the morning for the 6th class students-together, chatting, laughing, reminising, taking photos (only day a blind eye is turned to the phones 🫣) and saying their goodbyes. As they all go off on their different paths in September, they know that the friendships they have forged here in OLOL will still be there, only a text away, no matter what school they are heading to. Best of luck, Class of 2026 🥳🥳🥳

Shane from Bunclody Library 📚 came in for a chat this week, to tell us all about the Summer Stars program they are running this year.

Summer stars includes reading challenges, prizes, 3D printed tokens and even an art competition, where children can design their own bookmark, with the winner being chosen as the offical library bookmark for the rest of the Summer 🥳

Bunclody Library is a fantastic amenity with wonderful staff, right on our doorstep and they run lots of fun, free activities and workshops all through the Summer holidays.

We have a great relationship with them here at OLOL, and we want to thank all the staff at Bunclody Library for all the lovely things they did for our students throughout the year! See you in September 🥰🥰🥰

Sometimes a great idea blooms into a new tradition, such is the case with the 6th class recipe book.

Each year the 6th class students pick a favoured recipe, write it up, cook it up and submit it for publication in the 6th class recipe book. The students all love to contribute, but they love sampling all of the delicious grub even more 😋

At the end they each get a copy of all their recipes combined in a cook book, a lovely momento of their final year here, with us in OLOL ❤️

The boys and girls in 3rd class visited Dublin Zoo for their school tour this year, and believe me, those animals were no match for our crazy crew! 🦁🐅🐒🐘🦒🦏🐧

Dublin Zoo is always a school tour that our children absolutely love and this year was no exception! Even the weather played ball 🌞

The journey to Dublin, on the big bus alone is often such good craic and the children are always delighted by it. But, when they get to the Zoo, the excitement is real! A fantastic day, a fantastic organisation and a golden opportunity to see some of the most beautiful animals from all over the world, up close (but not too close 🫣) and personal.

All the while, learning about these beautiful creatures, the dangers they face and the wonderful conservation work carried out by the talented and dedicated staff of Dublin Zoo 🤗❤️
