Yellow Door Productions Dance, Movement, Music & Theatre facilitator in the mid-west and formally west of Ireland

Ballet classes, Modern Classes, Drama Classes, Stage Door Courses, Music and Vocal classes. Studio also holds yoga terms to two established Yoga Teachers in Hatha and Satyananda Yoga. The studio is one to be proud of warm, bright and used and changing to meet the needs of students, artists and practitioners

Someone today said to me ā€œitā€™s only danceā€ what I teach itā€™s not like you are teaching mathematics. This is especially in relation to inclusive dance and how this might reflect on how a regular school couldnā€™t attain the same level of inclusiveness. How I use making a circle at the start of class to do some breaths etc
Anyone who sees my 3-5 years do class especially those who have sat in see them have rhythm and repetition of a March beat with motion. And using diagonal lines across the room. Guess what thatā€™s maths. Never mind the modern dance rhythm section is practically an equation of claps and movement to counts.
Success and achievement is not teaching or forcing children to sit for 6 hours a day and making things dull it will work for some but not all.
Success is flexibly listening to and responding to childrenā€™s needs and maybe and itā€™s just a maybe if they moved for 20 -40 minutes as a dance and stretch like really express themselves they wouldnā€™t be so emotionally and physically wound up. Dance is so under utilised, especially with music, just moving and getting it out of the body and listening and learning how to get it out without rules of what dance is ā€¦
Get the arms punching but not at someone, bounce about, shake it out, feel the body ripple through the world.
In Ireland and society moving letting the body just move is just a faux pas. Unless itā€™s sport and thatā€™s great but something else happens when you have a boogee! šŸ’ƒšŸ½ It could be an excellent route to both regulation and getting alert in the classroom.
