UNBLOCKING

When we're 'blocked' as actors, we have less capacity to tell story.

Feeling BLOCKED can mean being disconnected from our voice, our breath, our body, our emotions, our impulses and our scene partner.

These classes aim at developing awareness around what our BLOCKS are, and then giving ourselves permission to work through them.

We'll do this through connection exercises, through movement and through creating a safe space for actors to come in, open up, get real, get vulnerable.

But we'll also PLAY. We'll explore scene work in a way that is less about getting something 'right', and more about discovering. Creating acting that is moment-to-moment, alive and spontaneous!

Weekly On-going Acting Classes in Bray, Co. Wicklow.

Saturdays 3pm-6pm

The Unmasked Actor's Workshop is a weekly acting class for adults in Bray, Co. Wicklow.

Our approach is to explore acting less through technique / trying to get something 'right', and more through openness, presence, vulnerability and play.

The more of ourselves we can bring to the work, the more alive and unique it's going to be.

These classes aim to create a safe space for actors to work towards that!

Classes run on Saturdays from 3pm-6pm.

No one told us how to act or play as a kid, we just did it. All we’re doing here is a more refined version of that. Feeling real feelings under a commitment to imagined circumstances. If we create from this place, the possibilities are endless. So jump in! Give yourself permission to play!

OUR APPROACH

For me, acting is about bringing our SELF, our HUMANITY to the parts we play. Each of us is a unique, fascinating and complex human being. We are far more interesting than our often clichéd ideas of what we think an audience wants to see. The challenge is how to access this vulnerable, playful and free part of ourselves –– and filter it into storytelling!

When an actor expresses their humanity, it reminds an audience of their own beautifully fragile humanity. That's when acting becomes truly powerful and impactful. That's what we'll be striving for.

Our aim is to get out of the head and into the moment through:

- Listening
- Movement
- Connection exercises
- Personal ownership of text
- Developing our emotional facility in service of story
- Trusting our instincts

The audience is then left with a living, breathing person on stage / screen, rather than an actor 'acting' an 'idea' of a person.
