AWE Ireland An alternative model school in North Wicklow, Ireland: encouraging self-directed learning, creative and critical thinking, and essential life skills.

We are a group of parents in North Wicklow who joined together in early 2015 with the strong intention to set up a different type of school for our kids. We have been inspired to find a different way to support our childrens life and learning and are influenced by many schools and ideas about childhood and learning which have been put into practice around the world. Schools such as Summerhill in the UK and Sudbury in the US as well as ideas on education from people like Ken Robinson have influenced our thinking. OUR AIMS

To set up a school of self initiated learning in North Wicklow in 2016 for children from age 10 and up. Its our intention to expand the admission age as soon as possible after start up. To look for and inform families and individuals who would like to be part of this school. To inform the public about our plans and progress and to find people who would like to help the school in its start up by offering time, skills, money or resources. To find people who would love to be involved in supporting the learning environment by offering to teach their skills and knowledge to the children. To find a principal and members of the committee whose role would be to protect and put into practice the ethos of the school. To share educational links and resources.
