Friends of the Forest Avoca … a magical place where we saw real squirrels running around beautiful wooden sculptures , listened to bird song , saw dappled sun through huge green trees. We were giants and fairies , explorers and animals .. a feast for the senses and the imagination.. We’d like to thank Avoca for providing this beautiful experience x

Septembers’ News Letter

It was wonderful to welcome back the children from last year and to see how they’ve grown up so much over the Summer. It has been a pleasure getting to know the new children and everyone is starting to get used to the new routine.

We are starting to recite days of the week, month and season , making a minutes silence and roll call before lunch , doing things like this in a group is calming and also brings us all together.
We take turns to give out lunches and be the line leader.

We are learning about respecting each other ( eg not taking someone’s work or giving others time if they want to work or have time on their own ) , taking turns
and speaking up for ourselves so others understand what we want or don’t want.

We had our first group lesson , the topic was the Sun.
The sun is a ball of burning gas, it is a medium sized star and gives us heat and light. 🌞 we painted a Sun to bring home in art and craft.

Next

We will start talking about Autumn 🍂 watching the colour of leaves change and seeing the fruits and berries about us, nature provides … we will be picking blackberries and making blackberry crumble ( next week) 😋
This will carry through to October when we will celebrate harvest (next month) with a classroom prepared feast of Irish fruit and veg (soup and apple pie probably )

We will be watching out for the squirrels 🐿 collecting food for winter months and talking about animals that hibernate. 🦔

We will be planting bulbs this month . We will tuck the pots away in the dark to sleep through Autumn and winter and wait for the first shoots to appear as a sign of Spring coming . When the shoots flower we will take them home 🌸 …

Any questions or suggestions are always welcome

Thank you
Isabel , Theresa and Sarah

*May News Letter *

May is our mammal month . The dinosaurs on our timeline of the Earth table will be replaced with mammals. Mammals grow their babies in their bodies and feed their young with milk their bodies make.
We are mammals and it’s an introduction to us as humans and follows on to ‘this is me’ in June where we focus on identity and belonging, the similarities and differences that make us who we are , individuals who belong.

We’ll be watching out for insects doing their thing in the garden and respecting their important role on the Earth

“There must be provision for the child to have contact with nature; to understand and appreciate the order, the harmony and the beauty in nature.. That the child may better understand and participate in the marvelous things which civilization creates”. - Maria Montessori .

The Sunflowers we planted have started to shoot 🌻 they might even grow as tall as us , they might grow as tall as our mums and dads , growing is exciting .
We’ll be starting to talk about big school for those going in to Jnr infants in September and we’ll be organising a morning visit to national school for anyone attending Kilmacanogue NS.
Isabel and Theresa are sending out links to parents regarding an information evening on transitioning .

🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

Our school tour to Zoom at the start of May was fantastic , it was lovely to see how kind they were to each other and how they included children not in our group , the fabulous weather for our picnic after was a real bonus .

As always any questions or suggestions you may have are appreciated

Dinosaur Week 🦕🦖 .. we have been doing the timeline of the Earth since February , from the beginning - starting with angry seas and volcanoes to calm water and first life moving on to when some fish grew lungs and legs and climbed up on the sand to see if there was food growing on the land and learning about amphibians we see today namely the frog 🐸 this week it was dinosaurs, the first animal to have a hard shell eggs which was incorporated with learning about eggs earlier in the month for Easter.
We have had circle time talks about dinosaurs , decorated our timeline table as dinosaur land and made our own dinosaur land to bring home…. Next will be the arrival of mammals for -Mammal Month May

April News Letter

It’s the week before our Easter Holidays . This week we will be doing Easter art and craft and baking.
On Friday 8th - we will be having a teddy bears picnic party .
Children can bring in a Teddy 🧸 .. (it might be a good idea not to bring in a very special Teddy , such as one the child sleeps with every night, just incase Teddy is forgotten in school. )
At our Teddy bears picnic party day , there will be an Easter egg hunt in the garden.
Children are to bring their normal lunch in , drink and Teddy that day.
*school closes at 11.30 no after school that day *
🧸🌸🐰🥚🧸🌸🥚🐰

School wil reopen on Monday 25th April .
On return to school we will continue with the timeline of the Earth -we will be learning about dinosaurs and hard shell eggs .
