I started training with Grandmaster Massan Ghorbani in July 1993 coming from a background of Karate. I studied Kick Boxing and Sin Moo Hapkido from then to this day and the only fighting Arts I have done outside of his Academy / Dojo / Dojang is boxing. I got my Hapkido black belt in 1998 and my last promotion in Hapkido was in 2013 to 4th Dan.

I have a life long interest in Survival and would be considered by many (not me) as an expert in Survival and indeed somewhat of a father figure in Survival training in Ireland.

I have taught people for TV shows and acted as a consultant with several forms of media outlets such as radio, TV, magazines and newspapers. I have also taught Firemen, Gardai and members of the Irish Defence Forces in the requirements of staying alive in the wilderness.

I always urge my students of Survival to engage in a continued Martial Arts programme and I feel that Ultimate Hapkido is an ideal option as a defensive art and in particular for someone that may find themselves encountering a stronger adversary. I teach Ultimate Hapkido and Ultimate Kickboxing at Masters Temple in Bray, Co. Wicklow.

Master Shayne Phelan.

HAPKIDO GRANDMASTER PROMOTION.
GrandMaster David McGoldrick began training in Martial Arts on 15th February 1981 and has continued learning, training and teaching without interruption. He holds GrandMaster level Black belts in other Korean Martial Arts and Kickboxing as well as Black belts and Instructorships in various weapons arts.
David was one of the first people to study Hapkido at Masters Temple after I introduced it to Ireland and has been my loyal student and friend ever since. When he moved to England, he opened the Korean Martial Arts Academy in Birmingham where he taught Hapkido and produced excellent students and Black belts. He then moved his Academy to Devon in 2000 and opened it as a full time school in Torquay. He continues to develop excellent students and Black belts and has always improved his standards by training with me at every opportunity.
David has had a very successful competition career, winning in forms and fighting at Irish national, British national and International levels. He has been putting his skills to the test working as a Door supervisor (Bouncer) since 2009. Because all good Martial Artists should be able to heal as well as hurt, he qualified as a first responder and also works as a Medic.
Despite this, David has not been upgraded in Hapkido since he was certified at Master level by GrandMaster Ji, Han Jae in 2001. I feel that David McGoldrick's promotion to GrandMaster in Hapkido is long overdue, well deserved and reflects a life dedicated to helping students to develop through Martial Arts. This is the highest promotion ever awarded by the World Ultimate Hapkido Federation.
Senior GrandMaster Massan Ghorbani, 10th Dan.
President of the World Ultimate Hapkido Federation.
