As we wrap up the school year, we also mark a very special moment in St Kilian’s, Mr John Murphy’s final week in the school after 41 years of incredible service.
Mr Murphy will continue working until August, but these last few days with students in the building are something we want to acknowledge and celebrate. For over four decades, he has been a teacher, a coach, a deputy principal and, for the last 14 years, our principal. He has led St Kilian’s with ambition, compassion and a deep belief in every young person who walks through our doors.
His commitment to equality of opportunity, his knowledge of the Ballywaltrim community, and his unwavering student-centred approach have shaped this school in ways that will last long after he retires.
Thank you, Mr Murphy, for everything you have given to St Kilian’s. You will be missed, and we wish you every happiness as you prepare for a well-earned retirement.

We are incredibly proud of all our students who competed at SciFest last week in TUD Tallaght. SciFest gives students the opportunity to explore their curiosity, creativity, and passion for science in a hands-on and meaningful way. From innovative experiments to insightful research projects across biology, psychology and physics, our students showed impressive dedication, problem-solving skills, and confidence in presenting their work – Well done to everyone involved!

👏 A special congratulations to our SciFest award winners, Aimee Burke, Sadie Forde and Amelia O’Brien, whose project titled ‘A Study to Determine if Gamification Improves Sleep Duration for Young People Aged 12-15’ stood out on the day and earned an impressive 2nd place in the Junior Psychology category—a fantastic achievement! Well done!!

SciFest continues to inspire a love of STEM subjects and encourages students to think critically and creatively. Everyone who took part should be incredibly proud of their effort and achievements, as they truly embodied the spirit of discovery and innovation that SciFest celebrates. We are very proud of all who represented our school so brilliantly. 💡✨
