Foundations of Drawing offers an exciting introduction to both drawing and to our philosophy to learning art. It is about the mystery of drawing - not academic drawing, but a line that can be harnessed to infuse an emotive reality in one’s work.

We explore line, weight, pressure, focus, depth and temperature. We emulate the surface qualities of excellent drawing from the breadth of art’s history, which with practice can lead you to your own personal style.

Students receive a live demonstration of technique and then do a study of a Bargue plate to understand how to break shape down to straight lines, and to learn how to create diffused value systems. In the second session students undertake a study of both a Giacometti drawing in charcoal and a Seurat crayon drawing on canvas paper. In the third session students practice a study of a John Singer Sargent portrait. In the final session students create their own drawing based upon the techniques they find of most interest.

Classes take place each Monday in August from 10:00 - 13:00

Cost: €150 ( Covering 4 Classes).

Life Drawing every Sunday from 2pm - 5pm.

East Coast Art Studios is open to all levels to join at anytime. We welcome creatives of all levels and interests. Work in a collective, positive and creative atmosphere while exploring individual artistic goals and interests.

All classes include ongoing live demonstrations from the teacher to highlight various techniques relevant to student's interests, be they contemporary or classical. Use the time to study the styles of artists such as Goya, Picasso, Van Gogh, Egon Schiele, Francis Bacon, Diego Velazquez, Monet, Marlene Dumas and Peter Doig, or simply pursue your own style and work from images and drawings you bring to the studio.

12 hour package costs €150, which can be used on:

Monday 10:00 - 13:00, Tuesday 18:00 - 21:00
Wednesdays / Saturdays 10:00-16:00 (6-hour full day course).

Every week we have 3 and 6 hour classes where you can study the techniques that interest you. Participants receive individual mentoring to ask questions, discuss ideas and work through techniques.

Classes take place Monday - Wednesday, and on Saturdays.
