Staff at Enniscorthy Community College (ECC) gathered at end of year tea to say farewell to three excellent teachers who contributed greatly to the development of ECC. The three retirees were Damian Meehan who had worked in school for 35 years, Trudy O'Byrne 24 years and Mary Ivers 26 years. All three contributed immensely to their subject departments and were highly thought of by students and all staff. Their expertise, positivity and enthusiasm will be missed around the corridors of the school. Everyone would like to wish all three the very best for the next chapter of their lives along with health and happiness.

The Junior Certificate Schools Programme (JCSP) Awards night took place on Thursday 14th of May at 7pm in the Parents Room. JCSP Coordinator addressed the crowd and thanked management, staff and parents for their continued support. Mr. O'Hara spoke of the merits of the JCSP programme and wished all students the very best in their upcoming Junior Cycle state examinations. He then proceeded to call students forward to accept their portfolio of achievement.

SNAs for the third year group Ms. Anne Marie Lillis, Ms. Karen Sinnott and Ms. Joanna Murphy all received flowers from the students that tehy worked closely with and the Class Tutors Ms. Trudy Parker, Ms. Bridin Kelly, Mr. Nathan Byrne and Ms. Melissa Brennan all received a small gift. Special guest on the night was former student Breanna Sludds Keane who is in the final year of her teaching degree in Home Economics and Irish. The two main award recipients were:

JCSP Student of the Year: Sophie O'Toole.

JCSP Most Improved Student of the Year: Lee Kenny.

At the end of the ceremony everyone enjoyed some light refreshments.

The Annual Awards day took place in Enniscorthy Community College on Thursday 21st of May. Special guests for the ceremony included Deputy Johnny Mythen, Councillor Aidan Browne, Stacey Breen a former student of the school who is currently making great strides in the Country Music industry.
There were a wide variety of awards given out on the day in the areas of academic excellence, sporting and student leadership. There were also awards for excellent student attendance as the school was involved in the Anseo attendance pilot this year. Principal Dr. Iain Wickham highlighted the importance of school attendance as it has a major impact on so many other areas, Dr. Wickham also spoke of the difficult year for the school following the sad passing of two members of the school community.
Ms. Pauline Asple was a Maths teacher in the school who was extremely dedicated and always ensured students fulfilled their potential, who sadly passed away in November. Ms. Asple was represented by her father Nick and brother Nicholas. In her memory the family made a generous donation to the Maths department and a special award to the most improved Maths student. Then in March there was the sudden passing of second year student Volodymyr Serheiev.
The Principal thanked all stakeholders for their assistance during the past year helping to ensure the smooth running of the school. He particularly thanked Ms. Aileen Walsh (Deputy Principal) and Mr. Damian Meehan (Acting Deputy Principal) for their efforts throughout the year. The professional way Mr. Conor Dempsey organised the event was highlighted and Mr. Liam Sharkey who acted as MC. It was also noted on the day that all the awards were made by Wood Technology students under the supervision of their teacher Mr. David Lawton.
The important showcase event in the school calendar finished with the announcement of Student of the Year. The winner for 2026 was Jack Redmond. During his time in Enniscorthy Community College Jack has fully immersed himself in school life being heavily involved in the Student Council and various fundraising events. Jack has always had a serious work ethic and is highly thought of by both students and staff.

End of Year Library Concert
'Ghostbusters' theme began the annual summer lunchtime show followed by Strauss' famous waltz-The Blue Danube- on Wednesday 20th May.
The orchestra demonstrated hits from the recent WWETB "In Harmony" show in the National Opera house including the James Bond 007 theme and the famous double-bass riff from epic pop song, Billie Jean.
Mary Flynn- JCSP librarian host- welcomed proud family and friends to the annual celebration with MC Mr. Conor Dempsey keeping the assembled gathering entertained.
ECC instrumental tutors- Emer Collins-violin and piano teacher and James Warren -Double Bass, Cello, Clarinet, Flute teacher assisted their students to perform a variety of solos, duets, ensembles on piano, fiddle, violin, clarinet, double bass ,cello and flute .
Italian composer Einaudi was 6th year Katie Cloke's choice for her atmospheric solo piano performance.
Ruby O'Brien 5th year Music student performed Bach's "Badinerie"-famous flute solo and Dvorak's Romantic solo for violin -Grade 6 RIAM- was Shannon's choice.
Ms. Mulligan ,harpist ,accompanied Shannon 6t year playing a jig on fiddle representing our Traditional music group.
The orchestra said goodbye-very reluctantly- to Andrew Kehoe 6th year Double Bass /Drums and Shannon O'Reilly Murphy 6th year Fiddle/Violin/Mandolin.
Both students had contributed so much to the school,ECC orchestra and to WWETB Trad and Orchestra groups in both 2024 and 2026.
Flautist and ECC Music teacher Ms Cullen also joined the celebrations.

It has been a very busy couple of weeks in ECC, so it is catch up time over the next few days!
Well done to all the athletes who travelled to SETU Carlow to take part in the South Leinster Schools Track & Field. Especially to Markuss Bridags who finished 2nd in the Junior Hammer.
Congratulations to Courtney O’Connor who finished 3rd in the Senior Girls Hammer at the South Leinsters Schools T&F.

Congratulations to Shannon O'Reilly Murphy , ECC 6th year Music student.
Shannon has qualified for the All Ireland Fleadh in mandolin and is Leinster champion for drumming at the County Fleadh in Bannow at the weekend.

Last Wednesday night, the annual TY Showcase took place in our school canteen in Enniscorthy Community College, where over 130 people enjoyed a fantastic performance of John B. Keane’s “The Field”, followed by some fabulous fashion with our Junk Kouture and Relove Fashion students. There was 26 TY students involved in The Field along with the help of the teacher-led production team. The students excelled in their roles on stage in what is deemed to be a difficult play for adults. The backstage and technical team were just as professional in their work, and the audience showed their appreciation with a standing ovation. The second half of the night saw the pub in Carrigthomond transformed into a catwalk, where 4 TY students brought their creations to the stage, with dresses made from feathers to leather, and chains to denim. The designers, models and their teams did a fantastic job and absolutely styled it out on the night. A big thank you to Management and all the staff who helped over the past few months and on the night itself.
