Stepping Stones Early Learning Centre Stepping Stones Early Learning Centre is an approved HIGHER QUALITY early years service. Stepping Stones is open Monday - Friday 9.00 - 12.00.

Stepping Stones Early Learning Centre is a play based learning environment for children aged 2 1/2 - 6 years old. It focuses on developing children's learning, development and social interaction skills through play and one to one interaction with highly trained staff. Stepping Stones uses Aistear and a variety of international curricula to promote children's development and adheres to guidlines in Aistear: The Irish Framework for Early Learning.

Following last week's trip to Ballinahown Sportspark, Playground and Walkways where we explored nature in our local community, the children have been continuing investigation and exploration of our very own outdoor learning environment in Stepping Stones Early Learning Centre !
It is amazing to witness how curious and observant the children are. They are notice every little change in the environment. They are particularly impressed with the array of colourful wild flowers growing in our lawn.
We are so proud of these little explorers who are proving themselves as sustainable carers for the environment, treating it with meas (respect), empathy, cineáltas (kindness) and equity.

With this beautiful local amenity on our doorstep it would be crazy not to take advantage of it! So we got a bus and travelled in style down to Ballinahown Park. Thanks to Rohans Bus 🚎
Here we were joined by all the children's parents and families. We explored Ballinahowns nature trail. Then we had a picnic and playtime🥿🏃‍♀️
This was a fantastic morning. The children explored nature and had fun with friends and families, promoting children's identity and belonging and links to their local community.
We also incorporated this event with The Big Toddle, a fundraising initiative run by Barnardos.
Thanks to everyone who joined us and supported us. What a magical memorable morning we had 😍

The weather was lovely and the children were full of energy and enthusiasm 🤩
Events such as Sports Day promotes children's sense of Well-being and Participation.
The children each received a medal for the positive learning dispositions they displayed today.

It's May Day!
To celebrate May Day we decorated our May Bush. This is an old tradition in Ireland which remains popular today, particularly around midland areas apparently, so we're keeping it local! This is a lovely example of exploring our cultural heritage. It's lovely to see the children in their role as active citizens, doing their bit to keep this tradition alive and well.
We also "washed" our faces in the morning dew! Doing this on the 1st of May is said to ensure youthfulness and good luck!🍀

😎 The sunshine has us all buzzing this week in Stepping Stones!
Lots of outdoor learning has been allowing us as educators to really notice just how much the children love to explore their learning environment. They display so much interest and curiosity every single day!
We noticed how they utilise natural materials in their play, and how they make decisions about risky play. All this promotes resourcefulness, confidence, communication and problem solving skills.

We really enjoyed a Springy day today in our outdoor learning environment 🌼🌻🌷
It was lovely to see the children outside enjoying the fresh air! We observed lots of gross motor skills, playfulness, fun, friendliness, creativity, problem solving, communication and social interactions.
We have been talking lots about Spring. The children really enjoy exploring the natural environment and noticing all the changes that are taking place 🫶
