⭐️ HAPPY RETIREMENT TO THE WHYTES ⭐️

Sending our warmest wishes to Gerry and Martina Whyte as they begin a very well-deserved retirement after nearly 40 years at the heart of the community in Legan.

Over the years, the Whyte family have been wonderful friends and supporters of Ballymahon Vocational School, and their kindness, friendship and generosity have always been greatly appreciated.

For almost four decades, Gerry and Martina have given so much to the people of Legan and the wider South Longford community.

We thank Gerry and Martina most sincerely for all they have contributed over the years and wish them both many happy and healthy years ahead, filled with relaxation, good times and good health.

⭐️A LETTER TO MY FUTURE SELF ⭐️

Today, our First Year Group 110 took part in a very special activity, writing letters to the young people they will become in five or six years’ time.

Each student wrote to their future self, capturing something of who they are today — their hopes and dreams, their interests, their friendships, their ambitions and perhaps even a few words of advice for the journey ahead.

The letters have now been sealed and safely locked away, where they will remain throughout the students’ years in school. They will be returned to them when they reach their Leaving Cert year.

What a special moment it will be to open those letters and meet, through their own words, the First Year student they once were — and to see just how much they have grown, changed and achieved along the way.

⭐️ A WARM WELCOME BACK TO BVS ⭐️

As we prepare to open our doors for a new academic year, we are delighted to extend a very warm welcome to all our students, staff, parents, guardians and families at Ballymahon Vocational School.

We hope that everyone has enjoyed a restful summer break and returns refreshed and ready for the year ahead. The beginning of a new school year brings a wonderful sense of possibility — a chance to reconnect with friends, embrace new opportunities, set new goals and continue to learn and grow together.

A particularly warm welcome goes to our new First Year students and their families. Starting secondary school is an exciting and important milestone, and we look forward to helping each of you settle in, make new friends, discover new interests and become an important part of our school community. We also warmly welcome all new students and staff joining us this year.

At Ballymahon Vocational School, our motto ‘Where the Individual Matters’ is central to everything we do. We are committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment where every student is known, valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.

As an ETB school, we are proud to be guided by our values of Care, Equality, Excellence in Education, Respect and Community. These values shape our school and remind us of the importance of supporting one another, treating each other with kindness and respect, striving for excellence and taking pride in our community.

We look forward to working in partnership with our students, staff and families and to sharing the many achievements, opportunities and memorable moments that the year ahead will undoubtedly bring.

Welcome back to Ballymahon Vocational School. Here’s to a happy, positive and successful year ahead for everyone!

🔴 ATTENDANCE MATTERS AT BVS 🔴

🔴 As preparations for the new school year are well underway, one area on which we will continue to place a strong spotlight is ATTENDANCE.

🔴 Attendance is extremely important at Ballymahon Vocational School. Every day in school matters. Good attendance allows students to keep up with their learning, participate fully in school life, maintain friendships and routines, and make the very most of the opportunities available to them. Missing even a small number of days can have an impact on a student’s progress.

🔴 We are therefore asking all parents and guardians to support us by ensuring that their child attends school every day, unless there is a genuine reason for their absence.

🔴 Where possible, we also ask that medical, dental and other appointments are scheduled outside school hours or on Friday afternoons, helping to minimise disruption to valuable teaching and learning time.

🔴 If your child does need to leave school during the school day, we ask that a parent/guardian comes to Reception to collect them and follows the school’s sign-out procedures.

🔴 Promoting excellent attendance is a partnership between our students, parents/guardians and the school. Your continued support is of the utmost importance and is greatly appreciated.

🔴Every day counts. Every class matters. Attendance makes a difference.

🐂 THE GREATEST SHOWMAN 🐂

Our very own Sean McNally and Dunbeggan Thatcher continue to clean up at shows across Ireland! 🇮🇪

Latest stop was Tullamore, where Thatcher won his class, was crowned Overall Belgian Blue Bull Champion, and then tapped out as Reserve Belgian Blue Champion of the Show! 🏆🐂

Sean thanks all his BVS supporters for following the adventures so far — and promises gold tickets for the upcoming Dunbeggan show in October, along with a coveted Dunbeggan hat! 🎩😂 Dunbeggan Blues

At this rate Sean, we’ll need a bus to Dunbeggan… and we’ll be checking for those hats at the gate! 😂👏
