Okinawa Shogen-Ryu is a style of Okinawan karate as created and taught by the late Kensei Taba, Hanshi, Judan. The Makoto Karate Dojo is lead by Michael Quinn who holds a Godan (5th
degree black belt) rank is the Shogen Ryu system, and who was graded by Maeda, Sensei on Okinawa. This is not a sports or competition based system. The focus is on training to develop realistic self-defense skills and life preservation techniques. Techniques are performed in a manner that results in the greatest speed and power possible without causing injury or harm to the person performing them.
